Landi, Fahey Named Vito's Athletes Of The Week
April 25, 2016 | Baseball, General, Women's Golf
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Vito's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are baseball player Tony Landi and women's golfer Erin Fahey
Male Athlete of the Week
Tony Landi, a junior from Geneva, Ill., played a massive role in leading Bowling Green to a 3-1 week, including a series victory at MAC West-leading Ball State. Landi pitched in all four games, logging a total of 5.2 innings. He pitched two scoreless innings at Wright State Wednesday, allowing just two hits while blanking the Raiders in the ninth and 10th innings en route to earning the victory. On Friday, Landi picked up the save by logging 1.1 hitless innings. Landi then pitched a perfect inning in Saturday's loss, before an extremely clutch performance in the series-clinching win on Sunday. Landi entered in the eighth inning in an 8-7 game with two outs and runners at the corners. BGSU's closer escaped the jam by inducing a weak grounder against the first batter he faced. In the ninth, Ball State loaded the bases with one out, but Landi pulled yet another rabbit out of his hat. Landi induced a game-ending, series-clinching, 4-6-3 double play. The save was Landi's eighth of the season.
Female Athlete of the Week
Erin Fahey, a freshman from Austin, Texas, posted the lowest individual score for a Falcon women's golfer at the MAC Championships in the program's history, a 54-hole score of 225, +9, besting the previous record of 226, +10 set in 2004. With her BGSU record score, Fahey finished her freshman campaign with a stroke average of 77.17 over 29 rounds, the lowest single-season stroke average by a freshman in program history. It ranks as the second-best single-season stroke average in the history of the program.
