Tyler Tate Named To 2016 NFF Hampshire Honor Society
April 27, 2016 | Football
Irving, Texas – The National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Hall of Fame announced today the members of the 2016 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, comprised of college football players from all divisions of play. BGSU's Tyler Tate was one of 868 players honored.
In order to be recognized, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant contributor in their final year of eligibility, must maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or higher, and must meet all NCAA or NAIA-mandated progress towards degree requirements. Tate is set to graduate in May and has a 3.937 GPA in exercise science, with a chemistry minor.
A MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-MAC, Tate broke numerous school records during his career as a kicker at Bowling Green. As a senior, he made 75 extra points and concluded his career with 56 field goals made – both program records. His 352 career points is second in school history, as is his 184 career extra points. Tate also kicked off 91 times, averaging 61.9 yards per kick, with 44 touchbacks. As a junior, he was third-team All-MAC and an Academic All-American, becoming the first BGSU football player since 1990 to earn the prestigious honor.
"BG gave me opportunities throughout my career to succeed on and off the field while also providing me with an abundance of resources to take advantage of those opportunities," Tate said. "The most important resource has been the irreplaceable people I have met who have helped so much."
With Tate as the team's primary kicker, Bowling Green football advanced to three consecutive Mid-American Conference Championship games and four straight bowl games. The Falcons won the MAC Championship game in both 2013 and 2015 and also won three games over Big Ten schools in the past two years.
