Four Falcons Garner Academic All-MAC Recognition in Women’s Golf

Cleveland, Ohio – A total of four Falcons in Fran Rodriguez, Lily Bartell, Hannah Lewis and Mikayla Baer were all named to the 2016 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Academic All-MAC Team on Wednesday, the league office announced.
A total of 30 student-athletes were named to this year's team. Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan led the conference with four student-athletes selected to the 2016 squad.
This year marks the second straight year in which the Falcons have led the MAC in number of student-athletes selected to the Academic All-MAC Team and is the second most in a single season since totaling seven student-athletes last year in 2014-15.
It marks the second Academic All-MAC selection for all four Falcons, who all received the conference academic accolades for the first time last season, while both Bartell and Lewis were made the 2013-14 MAC Academic Honor Roll as well.
To qualify for the Academic All-MAC Teams, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests scheduled or completed in the particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
Fran Rodriguez – Junior, Sport Management, 3.948 GPA
Named to the Academic All-MAC Team last year as a sophomore, Rodriguez played in 10 events for the Falcons in 2015-16, including the Women's Mid-American Play Challenge event. The junior carded a career-best season stroke average of 79.00 on the year over 23 rounds of play and shot a career-low round of 72, even par, at the first round of the 2016 MAC Women's Golf Championships. She recorded four top-25 finishes, two of which were top-five individual finishes. Rodriguez turned in a fifth-place showing at the 2015 Redbird Invitational, leading the Falcons to a first-place team win, and also finished in a tie for fifth at the Snowman Classic, another tournament team win by BGSU. The Texas native was the top-Falcon to score in BGSU's opening round of 295, +7, at the 2016 MAC Championships, which was a BGSU program record for the lowest team round at the conference championship event.
Lily Bartell – Senior, Multiplatform Journalism, 3.747 GPA
Bartell, who was also named to the 2015 Academic All-MAC Team one year ago, finished her career at BGSU with a career stroke average of 78.23, which ranks as the lowest career scoring average by a women's golfer in BGSU history. This season, she finished second on the team with a season stroke average of 77.31 on the season, which ranks fourth all-time in BGSU history. Bartell teed-off in all 11 events for the BGSU lineup, including the match play event where she went 3-0-1 overall. The senior recorded six top-25 finishes, including three top-15 finishes. She finished in a tie for fifth at the Snowman Classic, in a tie for 11th at the EKU Colonel Classic and tied for 12th at the ORU/SFA Spring Break Invite. She helped BGSU post two first-place team wins at the 2015 Redbird Invitational and at the Snowman Classic, and led the Falcons to five top-five team finishes on the year. Bartell was part of the BGSU lineup that posted a BGSU record 54-hole tournament score with a 901, +61, at the ORU/SFA Spring Break Invite and was also a counter in the Falcons' team score of 903, +39, at the Cardinal Classic which tied the previous record for a BGSU low 54-hole team score. She was a scorer in the Falcons' round of 293 at the Redbird Invitational, which was tied for the second lowest single team round score in BGSU history and also scored in BGSU's opening round of 295, +7, at the 2016 MAC Championships, which was a BGSU program record for the lowest team round at the conference championship event.
Hannah Lewis – Senior, Master of Accountancy, 3.625 GPA
Named to the Academic All-MAC Team for the second straight year, Lewis carded a career-best season stroke average of 77.93 on the year over 29 rounds of play. The Michigan native in all 11 events for the BGSU lineup, including going 2-1-1 at the Women's Mid-American Match Play Challenge. Lewis, who carded a career-low round 72 on the year, recorded four top-25 finishes on the year. She finished in fourth-place at the Snowman Classic, in a tie for 15th at the 2015 Cardinal Classic and 16th overall at the 2015 Redbird Invitational. Lewis helped BGSU post two first-place team wins at the 2015 Redbird Invitational and at the Snowman Classic, and helped guide the Falcons to five top-five team finishes on the year. The Michigan native was part of the BGSU lineup that posted a BGSU record 54-hole tournament score with a 901, +61, at the ORU/SFA Spring Break Invite and also counted in the Falcons' team score of 903, +39, at the Cardinal Classic which tied the previous record for a BGSU low 54-hole team score. A scorer in the Falcons' round of 293 at the Redbird Invitational, which was tied for the second lowest single team round score in BGSU history, Lewis also scored in BGSU's opening round of 295, +7, at the 2016 MAC Championships, which was a BGSU program record for the lowest team round at the conference championship event. She closed out her Falcon career with a 27th-place finish at the 2016 MAC Championships, her best ever finish at the conference championship event.
Mikayla Baer – Junior, Biology, 3.576 GPA
Like all three of her fellow teammates listed above, Baer earns Academic All-MAC honors for the second straight season. Baer turned in a career-best season stroke average of 78.24 on the year over 29 years of play on the year and carded the lowest 18-hole score for a BGSU golfer on the year with a round of 71, -1 under par, at the 215 Redbird Invitational. She played in all 11 events for the BGSU lineup, including the match play event. The junior registered four top-25 finishes on the year, including a runner-up showing at the Snowman Classic. She also finished in a tie for ninth at the 2015 Redbird Invitational and 14th overall at the 2015 Cardinal Classic. Baer helped BGSU post two first-place team wins at the 2015 Redbird Invitational and at the Snowman Classic, and was a part of the Falcons five total top-five team finishes on the year. She was also part of the BGSU lineup that posted a BGSU record 54-hole tournament score with a 901, +61, at the ORU/SFA Spring Break Invite and also counted in the Falcons' team score of 903, +39, at the Cardinal Classic which tied the previous record for a BGSU low 54-hole team score. The Ohio native was scored in the Falcons' round of 293 at the Redbird Invitational, which was tied for the second lowest single team round score in BGSU history and also scored in BGSU's opening round of 295, +7, at the 2016 MAC Championships, which was a BGSU program record for the lowest team round at the conference championship event.
