Atlanta, Ga. – The Bowling Green State University football program continues its expansion of non-conference opportunities against Power Five opponents by announcing an agreement to play Georgia Tech University on Sept. 29, 2018.
The Falcons have won three games over the past two seasons against major conference schools. James Knapke
led BGSU to the winning score with nine seconds left in a 45-42 win at home over Indiana in 2014. Last season, Bowling Green won by 21 at Maryland, then won a 35-28 thriller at Purdue two weeks later. During the last 15 seasons, Falcon football has 11 wins over Power Five teams, eight of which came in true road games.
This will be Bowling Green's first-ever game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. However, the Falcons have plenty of experience against other Atlantic Coast Conference teams. BGSU is 3-9 all-time against the ACC, with two of those victories occurring in two meetings against Syracuse University. The other took place in 2008, when BGSU won 27-17 at Pittsburgh.
In the last decade, the Falcons have also played at Boston College and at Virginia Tech, and they faced Pittsburgh in the 2013 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.
Bowling Green football now has three Power Five opponents scheduled for 2018. The Falcons will play against the Oregon Ducks in Eugene, Ore. on Sept. 1 and will host the Maryland Terrapins on the following Saturday before playing the Yellow Jackets in Atlanta, Ga. three weeks later. BGSU is also scheduled to play at Michigan State and Northwestern in 2017, Maryland and Kansas State in 2019, and Illinois in 2020.
The Falcons have six other games currently on their future slate. The Falcons have home-and-home series with Louisiana Tech and South Alabama, and they are scheduled to host South Dakota and play at Middle Tennessee State in 2017.
