Wiggins, Gustafson Named Vito's Athletes Of The Week

Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Vito's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's basketball player Demajeo Wiggins and track and field thrower Aliyah Gustafson.
Male Athlete of the Week
Demajeo Wiggins, a sophomore from Toledo, Ohio, posted consecutive double-doubles, as he led BGSU to 1-1 week. Playing at Toledo (Jan. 17) and at home versus Ball State (Jan. 21), Wiggins averaged 15.5 points and 12.5 rebounds while shooting 72.2 percent (13-of-18) from the field. While playing in his home town of Toledo, Wiggins went 7-for-9 from the field and posted 17 points and 11 rebounds. In Bowling Green's win over Ball State, the sophomore was a force down low, as he scored 14 points and pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds. He was 6-for-9 from the floor.
Female Athlete of the Week
Aliyah Gustafson, a redshirt junior from Iowa City, Iowa, broke Bowling Green's indoor school record in the shot put by throwing 52-feet-10 to win the Tom Wright Classic Friday evening. Gustafson's throw was the second-furthest in the MAC this year and ranks 17th nationally. Gustafson also competed in the weight throw at the meet, throwing 54-9.25 to place fifth overall.
