January 09, 2017 | Football
Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University football coach Mike Jinks has announced the addition of two early enrollees to the program. Jarret Doege (Lubbock, Texas / Cooper High School) and Matthew Wilcox Jr. (Huber Heights, Ohio / Wayne High School)
Doege, a 6-foot-2 quarterback, threw for 3,363 yards and 33 touchdowns in 2016 for Cooper High School. The younger brother of wide receivers coach Seth Doege, who was a star quarterback at Texas Tech, he led one of the top programs in Texas to the state quarterfinals. He was named first team all-district.
Wilcox, a 5-10 wide receiver, ranks among the top wide receivers in Ohio history with 188 career receptions and 2,525 receiving yards. His team won three conference championships and was twice state runner-up, going a combined 49-6. He was first team All-GWOC, first team All-Area and first team All-Tri State, earning area Player of the Year accolades.
Doege and Wilcox are two more pieces of a 2017 class that is being lauded as one of the top in the Mid-American Conference and is poised to be one of the highest-rated classes in program history. They join transfers Fred Garth and Datrin Guyton, who were announced in December (CLICK HERE for previous release).
BGSU Football will announce its entire class on National Signing Day Feb. 1. Follow @BG_Football on Twitter and watch the press conference live on ESPN3.
BGSU Football went 4-8 in 2016, following three consecutive trips to the Mid-American Conference Championship Game, winning the title in 2013 and 2015. The Falcons, though, are one of just 20 teams in Football Bowl Series to enter 2017 on a three-game winning streak.
