BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Talisa Lemke continued her diving dominance for the Bowling Green State University swimming and diving team on Saturday (Oct. 28) as she broke school records in both diving events during a dual meet against Eastern Michigan University. Lemke, whose scores have progressively improved in each of BGSU's three meets this season, won the one-meter diving event with a 298.20 and the three-meter with a 323.70. Both marks exceed the school records that she set last season. The previous records were 293.15 (one-meter) at George Washington and 323.15 (three-meter) at Miami.Â
In just her sophomore season, Lemke has won both diving events and has exceeded the qualifying standards for the NCAA Diving Zones in each of BGSU's first three meets. Last year, she was named MAC Freshman Diver of the Year and second team All-MAC, and she won each diving event five times during the regular season.
However, as a team, BGSU suffered their first dual meet loss of the season to the Eagles. EMU captured wins in 13 of the meet's 16 events en route to a 207-93 victory. The Falcons' third win of the meet was captured by Maddy Andrews, who set a personal record by finishing the 200 freestyle in 1:53.25.Nikki Borgerding placed second in both breaststroke events and was part of the second-place 200 medley relay team. Franziska Wohlert earned a trio of third-place finishes (100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 200 individual medley) and swam the opening leg on the second-place 200 medley relay team.
In total, the Falcons posted 25 top-three finishes during the meet. In addition to Lemke's school records, Falcon swimmers set 12 personal records.
COACH SAYS...
BGSU head coach Matt Ense said, "Today we faced a very talented EMU team that is very well coached and they showed up ready to go. We had some very impressive races and the team competed from the beginning of the meet through the last race and competed with heart. Talisa Lemke was our performer of the meet with 2 first place finishes on the boards and breaking a school record on the 3 meter. The divers have been learning new dives and testing themselves in competition and the results are showing."
