CLEVELAND, Ohio – Justin Turner
, a redshirt-freshman guard on the BGSU men's basketball team, was named the Mid-American Conference East Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday (Nov. 13) afternoon.
Turner made his first-career start at Drexel on Nov. 10, and led the Falcons to a season-opening 78-69 victory over the Dragons. He registered 33 points, seven assists, four rebounds, two steals and one block. Turner, who posted 19-second half points to help erase a 10-point halftime deficit, went 12-for-19 from the floor and 4-for-7 from downtown.
Turner's 33 points were the most from a Falcon since Spencer Parker scored 33 at Detroit Mercy on Dec. 12, 2015. No other Falcon freshman this millennium has scored more than Turner's 33 points. His efforts helped Bowling Green begin a season 1-0 with a true road win for just the fourth time since 1982-83.
Bowling Green takes on South Dakota tonight at the Stroh Center in the program's home opener. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
