December 18, 2017 | Football
Tampa, Fla. – Bowling Green State University punter Joseph Davidson has accepted an invitation to play in the 93rd East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 20, 2018 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. The game kicks off at 3 pm ET and will be broadcast live on NFL Network, as well as the East-West Shrine Game Radio Network.
Davidson joins an elite list of football greats such as Tom Brady, John Elway, Brett Favre and 74 NFL Hall of Famers who have played in the East-West Shrine Game, in addition to more than 265 East-West Shrine Game alumni on NFL rosters each year.
"The most important element of East-West Shrine Game has always been supporting Shriners Hospitals for Children," Harold Richardson, the Executive Director at East-West Shrine Game, said. "But during game week, it also affords our players an unmatched opportunity to showcase their talents and get their first taste of a potential career in the NFL."
Davidson, who maintains a 3.96 grade point average in mathematics and finance, is a two-time Ray Guy Award Semifinalist, given to the top punter in the country. He is a three-time Academic All-American, earning first team honors in 2016.
Davidson broke BGSU's career records in nearly every punting category. He is fourth in NCAA history in punting average among those with at least 250 career punts.
In 2017, Davidson led the MAC at 44.0 yards per punt and his net punting average of 42.3 yards was best in the MAC and among the top five in the nation. Of his 60 punts in 2017, 28 were downed inside the 20 and only two went for touchbacks. He had 10 punts of at least 50 yards on the season. Davidson has also earned first team All-MAC accolades.
