Falcons Complete Weekend At Akron Invitational
February 05, 2017 | Women's Track and Field
Akron, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University track and field team continued to make strides Saturday at the Akron Invitational, returning to campus with numerous personal and season-bests. The Falcons are in the midst of a critical push for seeding and qualification to the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Redshirt senior Taylor Rambo ran a season-best time in the 400 at 55.84 seconds, the fifth-fastest in the MAC this year. That allowed her to place first in the gold division (elite) of the meet. She added a season-best 25.55 seconds in the 200 as well, while teammate Cortisha Short ran a strong 24.92 and finished second in the gold division.
The Falcons finished first and second in the gold division of the weight throw behind Elizabeth Iversen's 61-feet-2.75 throw and Kayla Velasquez's 61-2.25 toss. For Velasquez, it was a personal best and moved her into third in the MAC in the event. Iversen currently sits in second in the conference.
Aliyah Gustafson competed in the blue division of the weight throw, but added a personal best mark of 58-3 to win the competition.
The Falcons added a number of personal bests across the sprints and mid-distances. Chasatea Brown posted a time of 9.15 seconds in the 60 hurdles for a new PR. Brianna Tidmore did the same in the 400 at 58.33 seconds. Rachel Durbin recorded a season-best in the blue division of the mile and ended fourth in 5:08.89, while teammate Allison Holahan set a PR at 5:18.58.
Durbin was the team's top finisher in the 800 at 2:21.20 but Rachel Stute (2:24.38) and Camerone Bryant (2:24.86) both set personal bests just behind.
"We pushed forward today," BGSU Track and Field Coach Lou Snelling said. "Some had season and lifetime bests, while others displayed consistency. Next weekend, we will need to continue that trend to be in our best possible position heading into the MAC Championships."
Bowling Green will travel to Michigan for Grand Valley State's Big Meet Friday. The Falcons will then be just two weeks from the MAC Championships, hosted by Eastern Michigan Feb. 24-25.
