Men's Golf To Continue Spring Season at Lone Star Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green men's golf program will continue the spring season by competing in the Lone Star Invitational from March 20-21 in San Antonio, Texas. The UTSA-hosted event will be held at the par 72, 7,247 yard Briggs Ranch Golf Club with the first two rounds taking place on March 21, followed by the third and final round on March 22 in 8:30 a.m. tee times.
The 15-team field will include host-school UTSA, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Illinois, Little Rock, Louisiana-Layfayette, McNeese State, Mississippi State, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Oklahoma, Rice, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas State and UTEP.
The Falcons will send out a lineup led by senior Jose Narro, followed by senior Brett Rinker, sophomore Pablo Heredia Iglesias, redshirt sophomore Max Rispler, rounded out by freshman Nick Hofland.
It will be the Falcons third consecutive season participating in the Lone Star Invitational, an event in which they placed 11th overall last year by a 54-hole score of 914, +50. Narro had topped the Falcons leaderboard with a final score of 226, +10 which included a team low round of 70 in the third round.
A native of Tampico, Mexico, Narro recently shot a season low round of 68 in the third round of the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic. Averaging a score of 71.24, Narro has started at the top of the lineup for all six events thus far in the 2016-17 campaign for the Falcons, and finished on top of the Bowling Green leaderboard with his score of 213, E in Hawaii. Last week in Laredo, Texas, Narro tied for 11th overall at the Border Olympics by a 36-hole score of 141, -3 with rounds of 71 and 70 in the first and second rounds, respectively.
In the second spot, senior Brett Rinker finished on top of the Bowling Green leaderboard in October's Mountaineer Intercollegiate with a total score of 222, +6, and went on to finish the fall season with his best 54-hole score at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic of 213, E. Rinker, a native of Slippery Rock, Pa., averaged a score of 74.33 over the course of his 15 rounds in the fall season, and marked rounds of 74 and 78 in last week's Border Olympics. Last season at the Lone Star Invitational, Rinker tied for 44th overall by a total score of 230, +14, with rounds of 73, 75 and 82.
Leading the Falcons with a finish of sixth at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate was sophomore Pablo Heredia Iglesias, filling the third spot in the Bowling Green lineup. Competing in all five events of the fall season with a 73.80 average, Iglesias excelled in the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate with a season low for the Falcons by carding a 67 in the first round, eventually leading to a team-best score of 211 in 54-hole competition. In last week's Border Olympics, Iglesias shot rounds of 71 on back-to-back days, earning his lowest marks since the first round of the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate in October. Last year at the Lone Star Invitational, Iglesias finished second on the Bowling Green lineup with a total score of 229, +13.
Appearing in his sixth event of the season will be redshirt sophomore Max Rispler. The Grand Rapids, Mich. native had averaged a score of 74.93 through the fall season, and has finished on the top of the Bowling Green leaderboard in three events, including the Marshall Invitational with a score of 212, +1 and the Inverness Intercollegiate with a score of 212, -1. Most recently, Rispler marked the highest finish for the Falcons this season by carding a 136, -8 at the Border Olympics to finish in a tie for second overall. Rispler topped the tournament with a 3.75, -5 average on par 4 scoring, in addition to earning a tournament-leading 11 birdies over the course of the 36-holes of play. The round of 67 also tied the low round of the 2016-17 campaign for the Falcons and marked a new season-best for Rispler. Last season, Rispler carded a score of 242, +26 at the Lone Star Invitational.
Rounding out the Bowling Green lineup will be freshman Nick Hofland, who appeared in two events for the Falcons this season, including the Marshall Invitational, and the Inverness Intercollegiate. Through six holes of competition, Hofland held a 76.00 stroke average and marked a low round of 71 in the third round of the Marshall Invitational, an event in which he tied for 31st overall by a score of 217, +7. In September at the Inverness Intercollegiate, the Ancaster, Ontario native carded a 54-hole score of 239, +26.
