Narro Leads the Falcons in First Day of MAC Championships

Day One Results
NASHPORT, Ohio – The Bowling Green men's golf team teed off the 2017 MAC Championships with a first round team score of 305 and followed it up with a lower mark of 304 in the afternoon for a first day total of 609, +33 at the Virtues Golf Club. The round of 304 is the lowest mark for the Bowling Green squad since the Lone Star Invitational (March 20-21) and was met by a collected 88 par scores and 28 birdies.
Leading the Falcons is senior Jose Narro, who is currently tied for 10th overall of 45 players with a first round score of 73, +1 and a second round of 74, +2. A native of Tampico, Mexico, Narro tallied a team-leading 21 par scores as well as six birdies, while posting a 4.75, -2 average on par 5 scoring on his way to a first day total of 147, +3.
In his fourth event of the season, sophomore Trey Walker currently sits in a tie for 23rd overall by a mark of 152, +8. Walker opened the day with a first round of 75, +3, which matches his season-best set in the first round of last weekend's Robert Kepler Intercollegiate. A native of Bowling Green, Ohio, Walker met his first day total score by six birdies in addition to 16 par scores on the day.
After carding a first round of 79, +7 in the morning's play, sophomore Pablo Heredia Iglesias marked a round of 74, +2 in the afternoon to currently sit in a tie for 25th overall by a score of 153, +6. A native of Sevilla, Spain, Iglesias opened the three-day competition with six birdies and 17 par scores, six of which came in the back nine holes. Iglesias also led the Bowling Green squad with a 4.50, -4 average on par 5 scoring on the day.
Redshirt sophomore Max Rispler opened the MAC Championships with a round of 78, +6, and followed it up with a round of 80, +8 to place him in a current tie for 38th overall at 158, +14. The Grand Rapids, Mich. native tallied a team-leading eight birdies, as well as 14 par scores, 10 of which came in the back half of the day's action.
Rounding out the Bowling Green lineup is senior Brett Rinker, who is currently sits 40th overall by a first round score of 80, +8 and second round of 79, +7. The Slippery Rock, Pa. native notched 20 par scores, two birdies and one eagle in the first day of competition on his way to a two-round score of 159, +15. The afternoon eagle was the lone one for the Falcons on the day, while Rinker also led the Bowling Green squad with a 3.25, +2 average on par 3 holes.
Currently leading the nine-team field is Kent State by a total team score of 575, -1, while Ball State trails in second with a team score of 582, +6. The Golden Flashes' Gisli Sveinbergsson and the Cardinals' Johnny Watts are currently tied for first overall by scores of 138, -6.
