Radeva, Witt Named to Academic All-MAC Team
May 11, 2017 | Women's Tennis
A pair of Bowling Green State University tennis standouts have been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team. Junior Emily Witt and sophomore Polina Radeva have been selected to the team, which was announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon (May 11).
Witt has been chosen to the team for the second time in as many seasons, while Radeva earns the honor in her first year of eligibility.
Radeva, a native of Varna, Bulgaria (Nikola Yonkov Vaptsarov), finished her sophomore campaign with a 13-16 overall singles record. She played at the No. 2 singles flight seven times, and at the No. 3 flight on 11 occasions. Radeva had a doubles record of 8-15, and she went 6-9 at the No. 2 doubles flight in dual-match play, including a 2-3 MAC mark. She teamed with freshman Ayumi Sasaki for all 15 doubles outings during the dual-match portion of the season. That duo clinched the doubles point three times over the course of the season, including in a win over Toledo in late March. Radeva ended the year with a career singles record of 31-30.
In the classroom, Radeva is a psychology major, with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.604 at the time of nomination.
Witt, a native of Grafton, Ohio (Magnificat), competed primarily at the No. 5 singles flight in her junior year. She played at the No. 3 doubles flight during the fall, but injuries limited BGSU to just five healthy players in the spring, meaning that the Falcons forfeited at third doubles in all 20 dual matches during the spring schedule. Witt went 7-20 in singled, and among her wins was a straight-sets victory (6-4, 6-1) that gave the Orange and Brown their first point in the Northern Illinois match. In doubles, Witt had an overall mark of 3-3 on the year.
Witt, a biology (pre-medicine) major at BGSU, had a cumulative GPA of 3.321 at the time of nomination.
The Academic All-MAC Team honor is bestowed upon a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
