GETTING THE BEST OF THE BULLS
Bowling Green has enjoyed a lot of success against Buffalo recently against the University at Buffalo. Last year's 27-19 Falcon victory made it six in a row over the Bulls. The Bulls, while without a victory since 2010, have been increasingly competitive over the past few seasons – the Falcons hold just a +13 point differential over the last three matchups.

Buffalo has gained traction as being one of the more attractive jobs in the Group of Five. Buffalo rebranded itself with "New York" on their jerseys in 2013, but that was abandoned by 2016. However, the Bulls did unveil new uniforms and a logo to boost their image. Further, the state approved construction of a new $18 million indoor football facility, allowing them to take another step toward competing in the recruiting process.
Â
TIME TO PANIC?
Buffalo head coach Lance Leipold is coming off a 2-10 record in his second season at the helm. For Leipold, losing is something he is not used to. He compiled a crazy 109-6 mark in his time at Wisconsin-Whitewater, but now holds a 5-17 clip heading into his third season with the Bulls. With the Bulls projected to be among the bottom teams in the MAC East in 2017, Leipold may look to shake things up.
Â
RUNNING ALL OVER
Buffalo's opponents found most of their success last year via the ground game, running the ball 70 percent of the time. They were so confident running the ball, in fact, that they handed it off on 45 percent of passing downs, too. The Bulls hope to stop the bleeding with the fact that all three starting linebackers are returning for the 2017 season. Khalil Hodge and Ishmael Hargrove, the team's two leading tacklers from last year, are back to lead the defense.
Â
A GIANT UNDER CENTER
Returning on offense is Tyree Jackson, who started as the team's quarterback last season as a true freshman. Jackson, listed as 6-foot-7 and 245 pounds, passed for 1,772 yards with nine touchdowns and nine picks in 2016. He recorded two 300-yard performances – one against Ball State and the other at Ohio. Already displaying promise, Jackson will enjoy the return of what might possibly be the best offensive line in the Mid-American Conference. What he does with that protection will determine the course of the Bulls' season.
