>>FALCONS HOST HAMPTON INN INVITATIONAL TO OPEN 2017 SEASON
To kick off the 2017 campaign, the Falcons will be welcoming Duquesne, UIC and Xavier to the Stroh Center for the Hampton Inn Invitational. In total, six matches will be played between the four schools. On Friday, Aug. 25, BGSU will take on UIC at 12:30 p.m. and Duquesne at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Orange and Brown will conclude the invitational with a 2 p.m. first serve against Xavier.Â
Coach Tomic will also be hosting a Chalk Talk for season ticket holders prior to Saturday's match in the Stroh Center Classroom. The Chalk Talk will take place at 1:15 p.m. prior to the start of the match against Xavier at 2 p.m. The volleyball program will also be hosting post-match autographs in the Hall of Fame area for all fans at the conclusion of the match.

>>SCOUTING THE FLAMES
First up for the Falcons will be the UIC Flames on Friday (Aug. 25) at 12:30 p.m. The Flames finished the 2016 season with a 16-14 record, including a 4-12 mark in Horizon League play. UIC returns redshirt senior Nicole Johnson along with senior Kyisha Hunt, in addition to a four-player junior class. Johnson led the Flames with 1311 assists on the season will be returning, however, UIC will lose Stephanee Yancy, who led the Flames with 544 kills and 100.0 blocks on the season. All-time, Bowling Green holds the advantage over UIC by a 7-4-0 record.
>>SCOUTING THE DUKES
Bowling Green will face Duquesne in the night cap on Friday, with the match slated to start at 7 p.m. The Dukes made it all the way to the Atlantic 10 Championship last year, but lost 3-1 to VCU. Duquesne posted an overall record of 18-12 for the 2016 campaign, in addition to an 8-6 mark in conference action. Returning for the Dukes will be seniors Molly Davet, Sydney Glover and Abbie Trzeciak, all of which whom marked major contributions to Duquesne's stats. Davet led the team with 304 kills on the year, while Trzeciak tallied 218 paired with a .272 attack percentage. Historically, the Falcons hold the edge over the Dukes by a 4-1-0 margin.
>>SCOUTING THE MUSKETEERS
With an overall record of 20-13, Xavier completed the 2016 campaign with a record of 13-5 in the Big East. The Falcons and Musketeers will conclude the Hampton Inn Invitational on Saturday (Aug. 26) at 2 p.m. Top returners for Xavier include senior Kristen Massa with 292 kills in 177 sets played, as well as offensive force Samantha Foti, who led the Musketeers with 34 service aces through 126 sets. Xavier also returns its starting libero in Meredith Klare, a redshirt junior who tallied 503 digs in 2016. A narrow series, Bowling Green has come out victorious over Xavier 3-2-0 all-time.
>>FALCONS SET TO BEGIN 42ND YEAR OF VARSITY VOLLEYBALL
Bowling Green State University volleyball dates back to 1967, when the program started as a club team. In 1976, BGSU started competing at the varsity level. The Falcons have racked up a program record of 696-575-3 (.547), including an overall MAC record of 283-252 (.529). The Orange and Brown last won the MAC Tournament and appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2012 – Danijela Tomic's first year at the helm of the program. The Falcons have won two MAC Tournament titles (2012, 1991), two East Division titles (2001, 2000), and have won the MAC regular-season title three times (1992, 1991, 1989).Â

Danijela Tomic enters her sixth year at the helm of the program. She owns a 71-70 record at BGSU, and a 229-141 (12 seasons) overall record as a head coach. She guided the Falcons to a MAC Tournament title and a win in the NCAA Tournament in her first year at BGSU in 2012. Tomic returns assistant coach Alex DelPiombo for a second season, while Alison Cooke joins the program for her first season as an assistant coach for the Falcons. Evan Antal begins his second season as the director of operations. Cooke was previously the volunteer assistant at Duke University since March 2015.Â
>>BGSU SET TO HOST 13 MATCHES FOR 2017 CAMPAIGN
Not only will the Falcons host back-to-back tournaments inside of the Stroh Center to open the 2017 season, but Bowling Green is set to host 13 home matches in total. After playing three matches in the Hampton Inn Invitational (Aug. 25-26) and two matches in the BGSU Invitational (Sept. 1-2), the Falcons will head directly into Mid-American Conference action versus Northern Illinois (Sept. 23) at home.Â
>>ORANGE AND BROWN BOOST A YOUNG AND EXPERIENCED ROSTER
The Falcons return 11 players from the successful 2016 season, which includes just one senior on the 15-member roster. Joining senior outside hitter Nicole Slimko on the court this season will be four juniors, six sophomores and four freshmen.
