Brennan, Fleak Named Jet's Athletes Of The Week
August 28, 2017 | General, Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's soccer player Chris Brennan and women's soccer player Skylar Fleak.
Male Athlete of the Week
Chris Brennan, a sophomore from Copley, Ohio, played a major role in the Falcons' lone match last week, a 2-0 win over IUPUI in Saturday night's regular-season opener. Brennan had the primary assist on BG's first goal, then scored the Falcons' second goal. He headed a diagonal ball back across the box to a wide-open Moe Mustafa, who opened the game's scoring in the 10th minute. Then, late in the first half, Brennan took a Mustafa pass and scored to double the BG lead. The three-point game was the first of Brennan's career, and he came close to having a monster night, as he hit the crossbar with not one, but two shots in the second half.
Female Athlete of the Week
Skylar Fleak, a senior from Sunbury, Ohio, helped Bowling Green open the 2017 season in emphatic fashion by scoring four goals during a 5-1 victory at Oakland on Friday, Aug. 18. Fleak became just the third Falcon player in history to score at least four goals in one game and the first since 2004. She also increased her career total to 20, which moves her into a tie for third-place on BGSU's all-time goals list. No other Mid-American Conference team scored as many goals as Fleak did individually last weekend, including nine teams who played twice, and no other individual scored more than twice.
