September 25, 2017 | Football
Bowling Green, Ohio – On the heels of an announced $5,000 grant to Bowling Green City Schools through the Mid-American Conference and Extra Yard For Teachers, the BGSU Athletics Department has announced that Saturday's football game against Akron will serve as Teacher Appreciation Day. It has previously been announced as Military Appreciation Day as well.
All teachers with a valid school ID will receive a special discounted ticket for the team's conference opener against Akron at 6 pm Saturday. Along with the ticket discount, there will be on-field recognitions and academic spotlights throughout the contest. For complete details, please call the BGSU Ticket Office at 877-BGSU TICKET.
On Friday, Sept. 15, BGSU Athletics announced a $5,000 donation to BG City Schools for three initiatives. The district will use $1,000 to purchase sensory swings for two elementary schools to help support children with special needs. A $3,000 investment for purchasing new books for three local elementary schools will benefit all of the children within the public school community. Also, an enrichment program, PACE, will use $1,000 for a 3-D printer and accessories to assist with technology upgrades.
"One of the things that we're really proud of is the partnerships we have with the University," Francis Scruci, Bowling Green City Schools Superintendent, said. "This is one of those things that doesn't just impact today, it's going to impact kids for years to come. We can't thank the University enough for the things they do for us."
"As an NCAA Division I football playing institution, BGSU is excited to designate Bowling Green City Schools as the beneficiary of our College Football Playoff grant," Bob Moosbrugger, BGSU Athletics Director, said. "The funds will provide great resources for the teachers and students at BG elementary schools. To be able to give back to our community is rewarding to our athletics department and student-athletes."
Along with Teacher Appreciation Day, Saturday's game against Akron will serve as Military Appreciation Day. All veterans and active service members with ID will receive a free ticket to the game. The BGSU Football team will wear special military appreciation helmets (CLICK HERE for details), which were named the most patriotic in the country. All veterans and active service members will be invited to the field for the service song salute, which will take place pregame and information will be available at a free pre-game tailgate for veterans and active service members.
