Tennis Continues Fall Season with Competition at WSU Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis program continues the 2017 season this weekend, as it travels to Dayton, Ohio to compete in the WSU Invitational from Friday, Sept. 29 through Saturday, Sept. 30.
Joining host school Wright State and the Falcons in competition will be Mid-American Conference foe Akron, as well as Youngstown State, IUPUI, Dayton and Northern Kentucky.
Competition with the eight teams in attendance will take place at both Miamisburg High School courts and South Regeny beginning at 9 a.m. each day. The flighted play will begin with doubles at Miamisburg High School, while singles will be played at both Miamisburg High School and South Regency. South Regency will be the indoor back up location for the competition in case of weather.
Bowling Green opened the 2017-18 season on Sept. 8-9 by hosting the BGSU Invitational. The Falcons earned three flight titles on the weekend, including two in singles and one in doubles action.
Junior Paula Comella claimed the Orange Draw Title of flight one singles by a score of 6-2, 7-6 over Mid-American Conference foe Toledo, while in the Brown Draw of singles two, junior Polina Radeva claimed the title with a pair of victories over Toledo opponents. In doubles action, Comella paired up with freshman Marta Bettinelli to earn the flight one title over Toledo by a mark of 6-3.
Ultimately, all eight Falcons earned wins on the weekend. Bowling Green came out victorious in 15 singles matches as well as seven doubles matches in head-to-head play over the course of the tournament.
Head Coach Stephanie Dalmacio heads into her second season at the helm of the program after posting a 5-15 overall record and 1-7 mark in conference action in her first season as head coach for the Orange and Brown. Dalmacio's young team includes four returners in addition to three freshmen and one transfer student-athlete, with the addition of first-year assistant coach Jieke Stroobant of Belgium.
Host-school Wright State will kick off its 2017-18 season with the WSU Invitational after completing the 2016-17 campaign with a record of 16-14, while posting a 4-5 mark in Horizon League play. Third-year head coach Eric Burns and the Raiders return four players from last season, and has the addition of four freshmen.
The WSU Invitational is the second of four tournaments for the Falcons in the fall season and is followed by the Buffalo Invitational (Oct. 6-8) and the ITA Regionals (Oct. 12-17). The Bowling Green tennis program will also host its third annual Pro-Am fundraiser on Dec. 2 to cap off the 2017 fall campaign.
