BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving team opened their 2017-18 season by winning 14 of 16 events during a 214.5-77.5 victory over St. Francis University on Friday evening (Sept. 29). The Falcons had several victorious performances by freshmen in their first meet with the team, and one Falcon athlete has already qualified for a post-season meet.
Sophomore diver Talisa Lemke (Berlin, Germany) won both diving events against the Red Flash. On the one-meter board, Lemke accumulated a score of 275.35, while she posted a 305.00 on the three-meter board. Both scores exceeded the qualifying standards (265, one-meter; 280, three-meter) for the NCAA Diving Zones. She will compete in that meet for the second time in her two years at BGSU; it will be held from March 8-10, 2018 in Columbus, Ohio.
Overall, Bowling Green won all but the 50 yard freestyle and 50 yard backstroke. Of their nine wins in the individual swimming events, they took the top two places five times and the top three places once. In addition, Falcons placed second, third and fourth in both of the races won by a St. Francis swimmer. BGSUÂ captured victories in all three relays and took the top two spots in two of those. The two diving events were uncontested.
