Falcons Resume Season at Buffalo Diving Invitational
January 12, 2018 | Women's Swimming & Diving
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving team begins the final drive to the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships this weekend when the team's divers travel to Buffalo, N.Y. for the University of Buffalo Diving Invitational. The three-day event (Jan. 12-14) features competition among men's and women's teams on the one-meter, three-meter and platform boards. The Falcons will be participating in the one- and three-meter diving portions, and they will face six opposing schools. That list includes MAC foes Buffalo, Ohio, and Toledo, as well as Canisius, Niagara, and St. Bonaventure.
Head coach Matt Ense said, "This is a unique opportunity for our divers to get another chance to compete on the boards and work on their lists as we head into the home stretch of the season. The more opportunities they have in competition to see all of the hard work in practice paying off, the better off they'll be. Over the holiday break it was great to have the divers and swimmers training at the same time for a few days so everyone can see how hard they are working."
Five BGSU divers are taking part in the meet: Kylie Bosco, Emma Kellerman, Talisa Lemke, Claire Stam, and Ashley White. Lemke has continued the historic run she began last season as a freshman by breaking her own school records in both diving events multiple times during the fall schedule. Those marks currently stand at 300.97 (one-meter) and 339.22 (three-meter). In seven meets thus far, she has won both events six times. Kellerman has set personal records in both events this season, earning a 209.70 in the one-meter at Michigan State and a 225.37 in the three-meter in a double-dual against Xavier and Tiffin.
Kylie Bosco has also had a successful season. In the one-meter, she placed fourth at the Zippy Invitational with a season-best 256.70, while she posted a season-best 259.60 for a second-place finish against St. Francis. Clair Stam has a pair of second-place finishes behind Lemke to her credit in both events so far this season. She placed second in the three-meter (282.15) at the Zippy Invitational, just shy of her career-best score (283.40). Ashley White added a new personal record in the three-meter at Michigan State (254.70) and placed third in two meets during the fall.
Divers will compete in a preliminary round in each event, with a final round of dives following immediately after the conclusion of the prelims. Full results of the meet will be available on BGSUFalcons.com following the conclusion of Saturday's competition.
The complete team will resume action on Saturday, Jan. 27 in a dual meet at Ohio University. The Falcons will then return to Cooper Pool for the final home meet of the season against Toledo on Friday, Feb. 2 and Saturday, Feb. 3. The 2018 MAC Championships begin in Athens, Ohio on Feb. 21.
