Tennis Remains Undefeated with 6-1 Victory over Youngstown State

PERRYSBURG, Ohio – The Bowling Green tennis program (3-0) remains undefeated as it earned a 6-1 victory over Youngstown State (0-4) Saturday afternoon. In the Falcons third straight victory at home, they swept doubles competition, while five of six players picked up singles wins. While Paula Comella and Polina Radeva remain undefeated in singles competition, Marta Bettinelli and Vanesa Pardo were able to clinch their first victories with the Bowling Green program.

Statistical Standouts
- The Falcons swept doubles competition for the second time this season as they picked up wins on all three courts. Most notable was sophomore Ayumi Sasaki and junior Paulina Radeva at the No. 2 doubles spot, who shut out its competition in a 6-0 victory.
- After opening with a win to go up 1-0, junior Paula Comella and sophomore Marharita-Sophia Tavpash fought their way back in their biggest test of the season thus far at No. 1 doubles. The pairing rebounded from a 4-1 deficit to go up 6-5, before taking the match in a 7-5 final.
- Similarly, after starting out down 1-0 at the No. 3 doubles spot, freshman Marta Bettinelli and junior Vanesa Pardo responded when they went up 2-1. The duo's momentum carried them to lead the rest of the match and to a 6-4 victory over the Penguins.
- Deciding the fourth point for the win for the Falcons was sophomore Marharita-Sophia Tavpash at No. 3 singles. Leading outright, the Lviv, Ukraine native downed her opponent in the opening set by a score of 6-1 and before sealing the match in straight sets with a score of 6-2.
- After leading outright against her opponent, Vanesa Pardo was able to clinch her first ever singles win with the Bowling Green program by scores of 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 6 singles spot.
- After starting down 1-0 in the first, junior Polina Radeva was able to come back with a first set win against her opponent to claim a 6-2 victory. A native of Varna, Bulgaria, Radeva did not sacrifice another lead to Youngstown State, before tallying an outright win of 6-2 in straight sets. On the season, Radeva remains undefeated in singles competition, and holds a 3-0 record thus far.
- A testing match at the No. 1 singles spot, junior Paula Comella also improved her record on the season to 3-0 after downing her opponent in a tiebreaker. The back and forth dual began when the Ciutadella de Menorca, Spain native came back in the opening set after trailing 6-5 to earn a first set win of 7-5. Although Comella dropped the second set 6-3, she was able to down Youngstown State by a decisive 10-3 marker in the tiebreaker and claim the point.
- Rounding out singles competition was freshman Marta Bettinelli, who was also able to earn her first ever singles victory in her collegiate career. A native of Milan, Italy, Bettinelli rebounded from a first set loss of 6-1, to come back with two consecutive set wins for the point. After starting out down 1-0 in the second, Bettinelli went back up at 2-1, and did not sacrifice a lead in the match that remained as she earned 6-4 and 6-1 wins.

- The Bowling Green tennis program will hit the road now for its next seven matches, before returning home on Friday, March 16 vs. UIC.
- Next up on the radar for the Falcons will be to travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. to take on the University of Pittsburgh on Friday, Feb. 2 in a 1 p.m. first serve.
