Tennis Looks to Extend Win Streak as it Travels to Pittsburgh

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – A pair of undefeated programs will face off this Friday, Feb. 2 at 1 p.m., as the Bowling Green tennis program (3-0) will look to down Pittsburgh (2-0) on the road. Taking place at the Oxford Athletic Club in Pittsburgh, Pa., the Falcons will look to extend its win streak in its first road match of the season.

This past weekend, the Falcons improved to 3-0 after earning a 6-1 victory over Youngstown State (Jan. 27). In addition to sweeping the doubles competition, Bowling Green was able to earn five of six singles matches on the day. While Paula Comella and Polina Radeva remain undefeated in singles competition, Marta Bettinelli and Vanesa Pardo were able to clinch their first singles victories with the Bowling Green program with wins over the Penguins.
A member of the ACC, Pittsburgh has also had a strong start to the season, including a pair of 6-1 victories over Youngstown State and Akron for its 2-0 record. The eight player roster is led by the lone senior in Callie Frey, and includes four juniors, one sophomore and two freshmen, while head coach Alex Santos begins his fourth season at the helm of the Pitt program.
In its opening day of competition against both Youngstown State and Akron, Pitt recorded 14 total wins between both duals while newcomers Claudia Bartolome, Camila Moreno and Luisa Varon accounted for five singles wins. After the first two matches, four individuals remain undefeated in singles competition, while the pairing of Callie Frey / Camila Moreno are 2-0 at the No. 3 doubles spot thus far.
The match at Pittsburgh marks the first of a seven-match road stretch for the Falcons, before they return home to host UIC on March 16.
