BOWLING GREEN CONNECTION
- Scot received a recruiting letter from Bowling Green as a high school quarterback at Barberton High School, just outside of Akron.
- His wife, Amie, is a two-time graduate of BGSU, earning undergraduate and graduate degrees in chemistry from the University (1999 and 2005).
- Scot has coached in Doyt L. Perry Stadium before. He was the offensive coordinator for Temple in 2011 when Bowling Green defeated Owls 13-10.
INSIDE THE BOSTON COLLEGE NOTES
- Boston College is averaging 32.0 points per game in 2018 under Loeffler, the fifth-highest average in program history
- BC scored 40+ points in each of its first three games of the 2018 season – the first time the program has ever done that.
- Boston College has 69 "explosive" plays in 2018 (plays of at least 20 yards), second-most in the ACC and 23rd most in the country. That total is up from 57 in 2017 and 42 in 2016. The program had just 41 explosive plays in the year prior to Loeffler's arrival.
- Of the four highest single-game passer rating marks in the past 22 years at Boston College, three of them have come in the past two years under Loeffler's tutelage.
BREAKING DOWN THE S&P+
- In each of the past four years as an offensive coordinator, Scott Loeffler's teams have improved their national offensive rank (as compiled by the S&P+ rating system). In half of those seasons, the improvement was more than 20 spots higher than the previous year.
- At Virginia Tech in 2015, Loeffler's offense improved by 22 spots in the national rankings over the previous year.
- Moving from Virginia Tech to Boston College, Loeffler saw a modest improvement of one spot in the national rankings in 2016. But in 2017, the team climbed 23 spots. Currently, BC is up another six spots in 2018.
THE QB WHISPERER
- Scot Loeffler has coached seven quarterbacks who went on to play in the NFL.
- Most notably, Loeffler coached both Tom Brady and Tim Tebow, but also oversaw the development of Brian Griese, Chad Henne, Drew Henson, John Navarre and Logan Thomas.
- While Logan Thomas has transitioned to wide receiver in the NFL, the other six have combined to play in 470 games, and throw for 104,423 yards and 707 touchdowns.
"BOWL"ING GREEN
- Including the 2018 season in which Boston College is expected to make a bowl game, in the past 16 years as a college coach, Scot Loeffler's teams have played in 15 bowl games.
- In total, he has coached in 17 bowl games (with a possible 18th in 2018).
- In 1997, he was on staff when Michigan played in the Rose Bowl for the national championship.
- He has coached three other times in the Rose Bowl while at Michigan.
- Since 2013, he has coached in a bowl game in each season.
- Loeffler is .500 or better in bowl games at every coaching stop -- 5-4 at Michigan, 2-0 at Florida, 1-0 at Temple, 2-1 at Virginia Tech, and 1-1 at Boston College.
FINDING COACHING STABILITY
- While Scot Loeffler is the 20th full-time coach in BGSU history, when he leads the team out onto the Doyt L. Perry Stadium turf on Aug. 29, 2019 against Morgan State, he will be the eighth individual to coach at least one game for the Falcons since the 2013 MAC Championship game.
- Dave Clawson coached the Falcons from 2009-13, completing his tenure with a 47-27 win over undefeated No. 14 Northern Illinois on Dec. 6, 2013.
- Serving as interim coach, Adam Scheier was the man in charge for the 2013 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.
- Enter Dino Babers. Babers led the program from 2014-15, concluding with a 34-14 win over Northern Illinois in the 2015 MAC Championship game.
- Brian Ward was the interim coach for the 2015 GoDaddy Bowl.
- Mike Jinks took over beginning in the 2016 season, until he was relieved of his duties on Oct. 14, 2018.
- Carl Pelini served as interim head coach for the final five games of the 2018 season.
- In that stretch of time, Bowling Green won two MAC Championship, three MAC East Division crowns, and defeated three Big Ten schools (Indiana, Purdue, Maryland).
