A Dozen Falcons Earn Academic All-MAC Accolades
December 04, 2018 | Women's Soccer
BGSU's total of honorees ties for highest in the MAC
Seniors Morgan Abbitt, Elisa Baeron, Laura Bozzelli, Alexis Fricke, Jennifer Reyes and Marissa Swindell; juniors Kathleen Duwve, Maureen Kennedy, Kristin Tveit and Chelsee Washington; and sophomores Nikhita Jacob and Gabriella Magallanes all were named to the team.
BGSU's total of a dozen honorees ties for the highest in the MAC. The Falcons set a school record for most Academic All-MAC Team members for the second year in a row, after seeing 10 student-athletes recognized in 2017.
Abbitt, Fricke and Reyes each were named to the team for the third consecutive year, while Baeron, Bozzelli, Kennedy and Washington all earned Academic All-MAC honors for the second-straight season. Duwve, Jacob, Magallanes, Swindell and Tveit each made the academic all-conference squad for the first time.
A total of 113 student-athletes were named to the team. BGSU and Ohio led the way with 12 student-athletes apiece, while Northern Illinois and Toledo each landed 11 on the squad.
To be eligible for the Academic All-MAC honor, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's matches during the season.
On the pitch, the Falcons won both the MAC regular-season and tournament titles in 2018. BGSUÂ went 14-5-3 overall, tying the school record for wins and setting a new record for fewest losses in a season, and the Falcons were 10-1-0 in MAC regular-season play. BG won the league regular-season title for just the second time in program history, and the total of 10 conference wins set a new school record. The Brown and Orange captured the MAC Tournament title for the third time.
Since Fannon took the helm prior to the 2017 season, the Falcons are 27-12-4 overall, 16-5-1 in MAC regular-season matches and 20-6-2 in all games vs. conference foes.
