Baeron, who was named to the third team, is just the second CoSIDA Academic All-America selection in program history.
Baeron, a native of Selsingen, Lower Saxony, Germany, played in all 22 of BG's matches, making a pair of starts. She was named the Mid-American Conference Tournament MVP as the Falcons won the league tourney title. Baeron – who arrived at BGSU mere months after the Falcons had completed a winless 2013 campaign – converted her penalty kick in the sixth round of the PK phase against Ball State in the MAC Tournament's championship match (Nov. 4), giving BG the title. She had two shot attempts during the match, including one that hit the post in the second overtime period, before converting the walk-off PK moments later.
A fifth-year senior, Baeron is an exercise science major with a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade-point average at BGSU.
In November, Baeron was one of three Falcons to be named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA,. Baeron and junior Maureen Kennedy earned first-team honors, while junior Chelsee Washington was named to the second team.
Baeron, as mentioned, is just the second player in program history to earn Academic All-America® honors from CoSIDA. Ali Shingler was named to the first team in 2005 after -- like Baeron -- helping her team to MAC regular-season and tournament titles.
The Google Cloud Academic All-America® Women's Soccer Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
The NCAA Division I teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada, with District 5 comprising all student-athletes from Division I schools in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. To be nominated, a student-athlete must hold at least sophomore status, be a starter or key reserve, and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher. District-Team members were selected by a vote of CoSIDA members within the district. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advanced to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot.
The Falcons of head coach Matt Fannon won both the MAC regular-season and tournament titles in 2018. BGSU went 14-5-3 overall, tying the school record for wins and setting a new record for fewest losses in a season, and the Falcons were 10-1-0 in MAC regular-season play. BG won the league regular-season title for just the second time in program history, and the total of 10 conference wins set a new school record. The Brown and Orange captured the MAC Tournament title for the third time.
