Tennis Travels to Cleveland State as it Looks to Continue Winning Ways

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green tennis program (5-1) continues competition this weekend, as it takes on Cleveland State (1-7) on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. The non-conference match is free to attend at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.
This past weekend, the Falcons earned a pair of wins at IUPUI and UIndy to improve to its 5-1 record and begin a two-match win streak. On Friday morning at IUPUI, Bowling Green shutout the Jaguars when it picked up a 7-0 victory on the road after the Falcons earned a total of six singles and two doubles wins on the day. Bowling Green then followed it up with a 5-1 win at UIndy on Saturday afternoon, where the Falcons swept doubles competition with wins on all three courts, the third time they have done so in the 2018 campaign.
Last season against Cleveland State, the Falcons bounced back to claim a 4-3 victory at home (Feb. 19) when they earned four singles and one doubles win on the day. Paula Comella, Polina Radeva, Marharita-Sophia Tavpash and Ayumi Sasaki all picked up match wins in straight sets at the No. 1-4 singles slots, while the pairing of Comella / Tavpash downed their opponents in No. 1 doubles competition by a 6-1 mark.
The Vikings are off to a 1-7 start to the season, and were most recently downed by Eastern Michigan at home by a score of 5-2 (Feb. 11). The Vikings lone victory on the season thus far came by a 6-1 win over Oberlin at home (Feb. 9). The Cleveland State squad is composed of six players and are led by seniors Aleksandra Golawska and Jana Schober, as well as by head coach Brian Etzkin who enters his 16th season at the helm of the program.
The match at Cleveland State comes in the middle of a seven-match road stretch for the Falcons, before they return home to host UIC on March 16.
