2018 SPRING SCHEDULE
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Head coach Matt Fannon and the Bowling Green State University women's soccer program have announced the team's 2018 spring schedule. The seven-game slate begins this weekend and continues through mid-April. The Falcons will host four matches at Cochrane Stadium and play three challenging road games. The schedule culminates with the annual alumni match on April 21.
Fannon said, "We want to test ourselves this spring, and we have put together a schedule of quality opposition that will force us to be at our be at our best."
The Falcons begin play at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 24) when they play a road match against the Big Ten's Purdue Boilermakers. Purdue finished 2017 in the middle of a tough conference race, going 10-7-2 overall and 5-5-2 in the Big Ten. The schedule resumes on Saturday, March 31 at Cincinnati. The Bearcats finished fourth in the American (5-2-2) and earned a 12-4-3 mark in 2017.
BGSU opens the home portion of the spring schedule on Friday, April 6 at 7:00 p.m. against Toledo. The Falcons and Rockets took their rivalry to a new level in 2017 with two close matches, including an overtime contest in the MAC Tournament championship game.
The schedule also includes a home match against Vaughan, a Canadian club, as well as a three-team contest against Grand Valley State and the Detroit Sun on April 15 at Cochrane Stadium. The Falcons' final road game of the spring is at Dayton.
"During the spring season, we get to work more on improving individual qualities, rather than the main focus being on preparing the team for each match. We can be a lot more experimental with how we play, but we also want to take our games seriously so we can get the most benefit from them."
Bowling Green completed one of the best seasons in program history in 2017. The Falcons went 13-7-1 and 6-4-1 in the MAC. The team qualified for the MAC Tournament for the first time since 2008 and advanced to the championship game. They also set a school record for goals scored in a season (43).
