February 20, 2018 | Women's Swimming & Diving
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – It is championship season once again for head coach Matt Ense and the Bowling Green State University swimming and diving team. The Falcons will spend the next four days in Athens, Ohio and compete at the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships. The eight-team meet will be held in seven sessions at the Ohio Aquatic Center and is hosted by Ohio University.

BGSU seeks to rebound following a sixth-place finish at the 2017 championship meet. That result broke a four-year streak in which the team finished third, culminating with a 507-point performance in Ense's first year as coach. The team's season-long preparation included their fifth consecutive dual meet victory over Toledo and wins against St. Francis, Xavier, and Tiffin. The Falcons also won the Buffalo Diving Meet and took third place at the 2017 Zippy Invitational.
One of Bowling Green's strongest contenders for points is sophomore diver Talisa Lemke, who won the 2017 MAC Freshman Diver of the Year award and was a two-time MAC Swimmer/Diver of the Week this season. Lemke ranks second in the MAC and owns the school record in both one-meter and three-meter diving. She entered the season with a 293.15 in the one-meter and has eclipsed that record five times, most recently against Toledo.
The Falcons have had a number of outstanding performances from their swimmers throughout the season, beginning with freshman Jordan Andrusak. Andrusak broke the school record in the 200 individual medley at the Zippy Invitational and ranks in the top ten of the MAC in three events. In addition, Sarah Hennings, Franziska Wohlert, Elodie Schreiber, Maria Galic, and Nikki Borgerding own top-ten times in the MAC. The team also did a solid amount of rewriting of BGSU's all-time top ten lists, as 14 new top-ten marks were recorded during the 2017-18 season, including a new time in the 400 free relay.

HEAD COACH MATT ENSE SAYS…
"Our team is ready for this weekend and to show everyone what they have been preparing so hard for all season. Our women have worked harder in the pool and on the boards than ever before, and it will be fun to see all of their hard work and preparation for the Championships pay off. As a coaching staff, we are all excited to see the team enjoy the week, and we are looking forward to seeing them step up and show our alumni and supporters what we have been working towards. We are looking to improve on last year's performance, and with a young team that has 14 members who have not swam at the MACs before, this will be a great experience for them."
