SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Bowling Green tennis program (6-3) was able to pick up a road victory against Detroit (3-8) Sunday evening when they earned two doubles and three singles victories for a 4-0 win.

Statistical Standouts

Closing out the weekend with four total victories was junior Paula Comella. Adding to her pair of wins from yesterday at Notre Dame, the Ciutadella de Menorca, Spain native picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 1 singles slot today at Detroit. Comella extends her singles win streak to five straight matches, improving to an 8-1 record on the season at No. 1 singles.
When Comella teamed up with sophomore Marharita-Sophia Tavpash for No. 1 doubles competition, the duo picked up a 6-2 victory to begin a two-match win streak. On the season, the pairing now holds a 6-3 record at the top of the doubles competition.
In singles play, Tavpash also sealed a point for the Falcons with a 6-2 win after shutting out her opponent in the first set 6-0. With the straight set win at No. 3 singles, Tavpash improves to 5-3 on the season.
Also picking up a pair of points for the Falcons was junior Vanesa Pardo. The Puertollano, Spain native downed her opponent in decisive 6-3, 6-1 wins at No. 6 singles, for an improved record of 4-3 on the year.
Helping the Falcons pick up the doubles point was a victory by Pardo and freshman Marta Bettinelli at the No. 3 spot. The duo was able to down its opponent 6-3 for a 5-4 mark this season.

Up Next

The Bowling Green tennis program will be back in action on Tuesday, March 13 when it travels to Columbus, Ohio where it will face off against in-state rival Ohio State in a 5 p.m. first serve.
The competition will mark the final match of a seven-match road stretch for the Falcons, before they return home to host UIC on March 16.
