Croy, Gustafson, Lemke Named Jet's Athletes Of The Week
February 26, 2018 | Baseball, General, Women's Swimming & Diving, Women's Track and Field
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are baseball player Brad Croy and co-female winners Aliyah Gustafson of track and field and Talisa Lemke of swim/dive.
Male Athlete of the Week
Brad Croy, a junior from Glandorf, Ohio, led Bowling Green to a pair of wins at Southeast Missouri State over the weekend. Croy did not allow a single earned run over 4.0 innings on the mound, while also hitting .333 at the dish. In a 9-7 win on Friday (Feb. 23), Croy earned a 3.0 innings save. He also went 3-for-5 at the plate and registered a career-high four RBI. Croy owns a perfect 0.00 ERA on the season, and has posted a batting average of .417.
Female Co-Athletes of the Week
Aliyah Gustafson, a redshirt senior from Iowa City, Iowa, won the Mid-American Conference Championship in the shot put and placed second in the weight throw, breaking the school record in the process. Gustafson's shot put of 54-feet-11.5 (16.75m) was more than three feet further than any other competitor and any of her six throws at the meet would have won the league championship. She also placed second in the weight throw, breaking BGSU's school record with a distance of 69-3.25 (21.11m). She was just eight inches shy of winning the event.
Talisa Lemke, a sophomore from Berlin, Germany, set two new BGSU records and won a Mid-American Conference championship in one-meter diving. On Thursday in the one-meter, Lemke earned a spot in the final with a 295.00, the second-best total of the preliminaries. In the final, she shattered her previous career-high and school record to win the MAC title with a 319.65, beating the old mark by 14.50 points. On Friday, Lemke took second with a 314.00 in the three-meter prelims to advance to Saturday's final. In that performance, she once again broke her own career-high and school record. Her 366.44 eclipsed her old mark by 27.22 points and earned second place in the final.
