BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Five different Falcons won events and led the Bowling Green State University to a 205-148 victory over the University of Toledo in the conclusion of a two-day dual meet on Saturday (Feb. 3). The victory is the team's fifth in a row over their arch-rivals, and that represents their longest winning streak in series history. BGSU led the meet by 48 points after the first day (117-69); the second half of the meet was contested much more closely (88-79), but the Falcons' lead was never seriously threatened. The win over Toledo successfully concludes BGSU's 2017-18 home schedule, as they were 4-1 at Cooper Pool. The team now turns its focus to the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships, which begin in 18 days.
Freshman Jordan Andrusak had possibly her best meet of the season. On Saturday, she won the 400 individual medley and set the team's season best time in her first attempt at the 100 freestyle. In total, she won three races and established three new personal records against Toledo. Sophomore Talisa Lemke took first place in the three-meter diving, and she has now swept the two diving events in six meets this season. Franziska Wohlert also made her makr, with a victory in the 200 backstroke and third place in the 400 IM. She also scored season best times in both events. Wohlert completed the meet with four top-three finishes, a new personal record, and three other season bests.
Overall, the Falcons established 27 personal records, six all-time top-ten marks, 11 individual season best marks, and a team season best in nine events. BGSUÂ swimmers and divers won 12 out of 19 possible times and earned a total of 35 top-three finishes.
COACH SAYS...
BGSUÂ Swimming and Diving head coach Matt Ense said, "The ladies came out and hit it out of the ballpark from event one yesterday. They went 3:24 in the 400 free relay, which is faster than we were at the MACs last year, and they just kept going from there. We got psyched up for this meet, and Toledo did as well. It got us swimming fast against our rivals, and it gets us really prepared for the MAC meet. It was Senior Weekend as well, and to be able to honor our seniors with a win against Toledo, you can't ask for much more."
BGSU ALL-TIME TOP TENS
Falcon athletes will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. for the Michigan First Chance Meet in two weeks. The two-day meet will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17 and Sunday, Feb. 18. Following that, BGSU will head to Athens, Ohio for the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships. That meet will be held over four days from Wednesday, Feb. 21 through Saturday, Feb. 24.Â
