SUNDAY FUNDAY
- BGSU is now 4-0 in games played on Sundays this season. The Falcons have outscored the opponents, 35-8, in those four games.
BGSU-BUTLER – HOW IT HAPPENED
- Searle helped set the tone for the Falcon offense, with a two-out home run in the top of the first inning. Junior Brooke Parker set down the Bulldogs in order in the bottom of the inning, and BG doubled the lead in the second.
- That second inning saw junior Kellie Natham lead off with an infield hit, and a sacrifice bunt by freshman Sarah Gonzalez moved pinch-runner Taylor Blevins to second base. One out later, Blevins took third on a passed ball, and she scored BG's second run on Wheeler's single.
- BG threatened to increase the lead, as Alex Sorgi singled, then stole second – her sixth stolen base of the weekend – before Dees walked to load the bases. But, Turpen and the Bulldogs were able to get out of the inning.
- In the bottom of the second, BU tied the game with a pair of runs. A one-out error and a Doud single put two runners aboard, and Christina Candotti's double brought them both around to score.
- But, after a scoreless third, the Falcons exploded for five runs and six hits in the fourth. Natham had a leadoff single for the second-straight at-bat, and Gonzalez was hit by a pitch, prompting the Bulldogs to make a pitching change. Doud entered the circle and got a grounder which resulted in a force play at third base, but Wheeler singed to score Gonzalez, and after Alex Sorgi's infield hit loaded the bases, Dees singled to right to plate pinch-runner Nikki Sorgi.
- Searle followed with a single that scored Wheeler, and Holcomb's base hit saw both Alex Sorgi and Dees cross the plate, giving BG a 7-2 lead.
- Doud got a run back for the Bulldogs with a one-out homer in the bottom of the inning, and BU threatened but did not score in each of the next two frames.
- Jenna Foreman singled with one down in the fifth, and the Bulldogs' leading hitter went to second on a sac bunt, but she was stranded there.
- In the sixth, Payton Longest walked, and Candotti reached on a two-out base on balls. Brooke Parker then fell behind Sammy Andersen, 3-0, before battling back to work the count full. Andersen fouled off a pitch, then hit a ground ball to second baseman Dees for the third out.
- BG broke the game wide open in the seventh. Holcomb singled, and a one-out single by junior Hannah Giammarino put two runners on. Gonzalez followed with a double down the left-field line that scored Holcomb and sent Giammarino to third.
- Senior Laine Simmons was intentionally walked, bringing Wheeler to the plate with the bases loaded. Wheeler's grounder scored Giammarino, and Wheeler went all the way to second after a throwing error by the Bulldog first baseman. Gonzalez also scored on the play, with Simmons reaching third.
- Then, Alex Sorgi and Dees each came up with run-scoring singles, giving the Falcons a 12-3 advantage.
- Brooke Parker allowed a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh, then proceeded to strike out the next three hitters to close out the complete-game win.
BGSU-BUTLER STATS & LEADERS
- The Falcons' 12 runs tied a season high, and BG's 15 hits fell one shy of matching a season best in that category.
- Alex Sorgi led all players with three hits, going 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
- Natham was a perfect 2-for-2 on the day, while Dees went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run and two RBI. Dees reached base four times in the win, as she was also hit by a pitch.
- Holcomb, Searle and Wheeler all went 2-for-4 vs. the Bulldogs. Holcomb walked, scored a run and drove in two, while Searle's two RBI included a solo homer in the first inning.
- Wheeler, as mentioned, had three RBI in the win, and she scored two runs.
- Gonzalez was 1-for-2 with a sac bunt, a hit-by-pitch, a pair of runs and an RBI. Giammarino also went 1-for-2 and scored a run.
- In all, eight different Falcons had at least one hit (with six of those eight recording a multi-hit game), and 10 different players scored at least one run.
- In the circle, Brooke Parker picked up the complete-game win to improve to 6-4 on the year. Parker allowed three runs (two earned) and six hits, walking two Bulldogs and striking out five. Parker threw 131 total pitches, including 80 strikes.
- Doud went 2-for-3 to pace BU's six-hit attack, and she scored two runs and drove in one (on her solo homer).
- Turpen (three innings) and Doud (four innings) combined to allow 11 earned runs and 15 hits. Turpen, the starter, suffered the loss, her first decision of the season.
- BGSU hit .550 (11-for-20) with runners on base and .600 (9-of-15) with runners in scoring position in the win. In contrast, Butler was just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position in the game, and the Bulldogs went 0-for-7 with two outs.
UP NEXT

That Friday's single game begins a seven-game homestand for the Orange and Brown.
