March 09, 2018 | Women's Swimming & Diving
MEET RESULTS
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Talisa Lemke closed out a successful two days for the Bowling Green State University diving team by qualifying for the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships on the three-meter boards. Lemke, along with teammates Claire Stam and Ashley White, were competing at the Zone C Diving Championships yesterday and today (March 9) in Columbus, Ohio. She became the first Falcon in more than 20 years to qualify for the national meet when she placed fifth in one-meter diving; her ninth-place finish today ensured her spot in a second event.
Lemke began the preliminary round of the three-meter competition with five straight excellent dives. She scored 48 or better on each of the five and surpassed 50 points on three, quickly securing one of the 18 spots in the finals. She carried over a 287.10 and entered the finals in sixth place. In the final, Lemke averaged 44 points on her first two dives but struggled on her third. However, she recovered to tally a 48 on her fourth dive. Lemke's fifth attempt was her best of the two-day meet, as she converted a back 2.5 somersault tuck into 60.2 points. That vaulted her back into the top ten and a spot on the three-meter boards at the national meet.
Claire Stam completed her third appearance at the Diving Zones with her career-best score and finish by place at the meet. She began with a solid 46.20 on her first dive, a back 1.5 somersault 2.5 twist free. Her third (44.95) and fourth (45.00) dives also registered strong scores, and she reached 40 or better in five of her six attempts. She ended with a cumulative score of 246.85 and finished in 22nd place. Ashley White's first career taste of postseason action concluded in 38th place with 219.80 points. Her best scores of the three-meter prelims were 43.40 on a back 2.5 somersault tuck, followed by another 43.40 on a reverse 2.5 somersault tuck.
Next up for Lemke is the NCAA Championships, which will be held next Wednesday through Saturday (March 14-17) in Columbus, Ohio at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The one-meter preliminary round will begin on Thursday at 12:30 p.m., and the consolation final will take place 15 minutes after the end of the preliminaries. The championship final will take place in the evening session (6:00 p.m. start). The three-meter event takes place on Friday, with preliminaries starting at 11:30 a.m. during the morning session. The consolation final occurs immediately after, while the top eight compete for the championship in the evening session (5:00 p.m. start).
COACH ENSE SAYS...
"The divers finished their portion of the NCAA Zone Championships with three great performances on the three-meter board. Ashley White had two strong performances on both days and finished in the top 40 of both events, which is very strong for her first zone meet. That will be valuable learning experience for next year. Claire Stam had another personal best finish with her 22nd place finish. Claire has improved on each of her performances at the Zone meet over the past three years and like Ashley this is great experience for her senior year. Talisa was able to punch another ticket to NCAAs next week with her ninth place finish. Talisa had to battle back from being in 13th place with only two dives to go to get into the top ten. I am extremely proud for how hard Talisa battled today with not being at her best. She and Coach Grant really worked well on staying mentally in it and never gave up. She was able to have two very strong dives at the end to secure a spot next week. We are all so proud of what the divers and Coach Grant were able to accomplish this week."
