PERRYSBURG, Ohio – The Bowling Green tennis program (11-6, 3-1 MAC) suffered a 7-0 loss to Buffalo (11-3, 4-0 MAC) Sunday afternoon at the Perrysburg Tennis Center. The narrow competition was a battle for first place in the Mid-American Conference standings as both teams entered the match with undefeated 3-0 records. The Falcons were able to earn one doubles win and ultimately fought through three narrow third-set battles against the Bulls, but were not able to seal a singles win against the defending MAC Tournament Champions.

Statistical Standouts

After gaining an early 5-0 lead against their opponents, the pairing of junior Paula Comella and sophomore Marharita-Sophia Tavpash was able to earn a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles. The duo is now on a four-match win streak, and holds a 12-4 record on the season.
The Falcons still hold an impressive 7-1 record at home this season at the Perrysburg Tennis Center, with just one home match remaining.
At No. 4 singles, sophomore Ayumi Sasaki was able to force a third set against her opponent by handedly winning a 6-1 edge in the second set after dropping the first. Sasaki was one of three Falcons to compete in decisive third sets, including Comella and junior Polina Radeva.

Coach Dalmacio's Take

"I don't think the score does justice for how close the match was. Against better teams, it's about the details and pushing through to the last point and Buffalo did that better today than we did. We're going to continue to work and hope to see them again in the MAC Tournament."
"Coming up against Toledo, it's going to be another tough match. We want to beat them again like we were able to last year and we're going to work on the things we need to work on to make sure we're ready against Toledo."

Up Next

The Bowling Green tennis program will now continue MAC play on the road as it faces Toledo in the Battle of I-75 on Friday, April 6. The Falcons will then return for its final home match of the season against Eastern Michigan on Sunday, April 8.
