Falcons Ink Fields And Laster To National Letters Of Intent

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team and head coach Michael Huger announced the signing of two future student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Friday, April 13. Caleb Fields (Middle Township, New Jersey / Wildwood Catholic) and Michael Laster (Manhattan, New York / Institute of Collaborative Education / Central Georgia Tech) will join the program for the 2018-19 season.
Both players are immediately eligible. Fields will be a true freshman on the 2018-19 team, while Laster, a junior college transfer, will be a junior in 2018-19 and will have two years of eligibility for the Orange and Brown.
Fields is a 6-2 guard from Middle Township, New Jersey. The soon-to-be Falcon recently led Wildwood Catholic High School to the winningest season in program history. The Crusaders went 26-3 and won the Cape-Atlantic League title, defeating perennial powers St. Augustine and Atlantic City in the process.
The combo guard recently finished up an outstanding senior season. He averaged 21.1 points and 4.6 rebounds, while leading the Crusaders in assists (83) and steals (54). He shot 81.1 percent (142-for-175) from the free throw line. For his efforts, he was named the 2018 Cape-Atlantic Player of the Year. On top of being named the Co-Press Player of the Year, Fields also garnered Third Team All-State honors.
The Non Public B South Jersey Player of the Year in 2018 earned First Team All-South Jersey honors in each of his final two seasons at Wildwood Catholic. Fields scored 30-plus points a total of four times in 2018, including a career-high 38 points in a win over St. Joseph. Fields finished his career with 1,674 points at Wildwood Catholic.

His ability to play on and off the ball makes him a perfect fit for our offense. His deadly mid-range jump shot, ability to stroke the three, as well as his ball handling ability make him a multi-dimensional player that can contribute in many ways. Throughout the recruiting process, Caleb showed an ability to take over games and play at a high level in clutch situations. While he's a well-rounded offensive player, the thing I love most about Caleb is his ability, willingness and energy he puts towards being a lockdown defender. I believe Caleb has an incredible amount of untapped potential. There are no limits on what he can become once he begins to scratch that surface. My staff and I are excited to watch him grow at Bowling Green."

Laster, a 6-1 guard from Manhattan, New York, has played his last two seasons at Central Georgia Tech. Laster graduated high school in 2016 from the Institute of Collaborative Education. Laster led Central Georgia Tech to a 25-9 season in 2017-18, which culminated in a regional championship and a trip to the NJCAA Division I Championships.
In 2017-18, Laster averaged 15.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 2.5 steals. His 7.5 assist average ranked sixth in all of the NJCAA Division I circuit. On the season, Laster posted a 2.4 assist-to-turnover ratio. For his outstanding campaign, he was named an NJCAA All-American (Second Team), on top of being named the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Year. He also brought home First Team All-Region honors.
Laster, who averaged 14.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists in his first season at Central Georgia Tech in 2016-17, registered five triple-doubles in 2017-18. Across his most-recent season, he scored in double figures 28 times, including eight 20-plus point games. Also in 2017-18, Laster recorded double-digit assists in 10 games, while pulling down 10-plus rebounds in 11 games.

As a true point guard, his ability to penetrate and find the open man is a skill that will make everyone on the floor better. Michael will bring experience, toughness and a winning attitude to our program. Averaging nearly a triple-double this past season, Michael has shown an ability to impact the game in a variety of ways. When my staff and I first saw him, we saw a player that would create a lot of scoring opportunities. Not only for himself, but also for guys like Dylan, Justin, Antwon and Demajeo. He knew each one of his teammate's strengths, how to get them involved and he elevated all of their games. We are excited to add that type of floor general to a talented group of returning players."
