Tennis to Conclude Regular Season at Western Michigan

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green tennis program (12-8, 4-3 MAC) will be back in action this weekend as it concludes the regular season at Western Michigan (11-11, 2-4 MAC) this Sunday, April 22. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. either at the Sorensen Courts for outdoor play, and the West Hills Athletic Club for indoor play.

Most recently, the Falcons were able to earn a point against Miami when junior Vanesa Pardo downed her opponent at No. 4 singles in a three-set comeback. Bowling Green also picked up a win at No. 1 doubles when junior Paula Comella teamed up with freshman Marta Bettinelli for the first time since the fall campaign. The duo earned a 7-6 victory to head into the final match of the season.
Last season, the Falcons concluded the 2017 season at home against Western Michigan, but narrowly fell 4-3 against the Broncos. Comella and Ayumi Sasaki each earned straight set wins at No. 1 and No. 5 singles, respectively, while the Falcons picked up the doubles point prior. Comella and Marharita-Sophia Tavpash earned a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while Polina Radeva and Sasaki marked a dominant 6-1 victory on court No. 2.
An eight-player squad and led by third-year head coach Ryan Tomlinson, Western Michigan has posted and 11-11 season overall, as well as a 2-4 record in MAC play. A younger team, the Broncos are led by lone redshirt senior in Barbare Eristavi, and includes a three-player freshman class. Western Michigan's two MAC wins date back to March 30 against Northern Illinois and April 1 against Eastern Michigan. Heading into the weekend, the Broncos are on a four-match losing streak, and will host Miami on Friday, April 20 prior to hosting the Falcons on Sunday in the season finale.
The match against Western Michigan marks the final event of the regular season, before the Falcons travel to Muncie, Ind. for the 2018 MAC Tournament.
