April 26, 2018 | Women's Tennis
CLEVELAND, Ohio – After their successes in the 2017 regular season, Bowling Green tennis juniors Paula Comella and Polina Radeva have been named to First Team All-MAC honors.
A native of Ciutadella de Menorca, Spain, Paula Comella has garnered a 15-5 overall record this season while competing at No. 1 singles, in addition to posting a 5-3 mark in Mid-American Conference action. In competition with partner Marharita-Sophia Tavpash, Comella has also earned a 13-5 overall record and 5-1 MAC mark at No. 1 doubles, while on the season the junior posts a 14-6 (6-2 MAC) record in doubles play in the 2018 campaign. Earlier this season, Comella went on a season-best five-match win streak, and was named both MAC Singles and MAC Doubles Team of the Week honors on Feb. 28. It is Comella's third straight All-MAC honor after also being named to First Team in 2016 and Second Team in 2017.
By an overall record of 12-7 and MAC record of 5-3, fellow junior Polina Radeva earned her first All-MAC honor of her career. A native of Varna, Bulgaria, Radeva has earned a 12-5 mark while playing at No. 2 singles in the 2018 season, and was named MAC Doubles Team of the Week (Jan. 24) with partner Ayumi Sasaki, with whom she's tallied an 11-7 (3-3 MAC) record playing in the No. 2 slot this spring. Radeva also made an appearance at the No. 1 singles position against Ohio State, and opened the season with five-straight individual wins.
With Comella and Radeva's All-MAC nods, it is the first time since 1997 the Falcons have had two First Team selections in one season, and just the third time in program history (1982, 1997).
With its strong run throughout the 2018 campaign, the Bowling Green tennis program earned the No. 4 seed into this week's 2018 MAC Championship. The Falcons will face off against No. 5 seed Eastern Michigan tomorrow, April 27 in a 10 a.m. first serve in Muncie, Ind.
