Demajeo Wiggins To Return For Senior Season
May 02, 2018 | Men's Basketball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Demajeo Wiggins, a forward on the Bowling Green State University men's basketball team, has withdrawn his name from the 2018 NBA Draft and is set to return for his senior season in 2018-19. On March 22, Wiggins declared for the 2018 NBA Draft, but did not hire an agent, making himself eligible to return to school.
Wiggins is coming off a monster junior season. One of just two players in the Mid-American Conference to average a double-double, the Toledo native averaged 13.7 points and a team-high 10.1 rebounds in 2017-18. By averaging 10.1 rebounds, he became the first Falcon since Cornelius Cash in 1974-75 to finish a season averaging double-digit rebounds.
After posting six double-doubles as a sophomore, Wiggins recorded 16 double-doubles as a junior. Wiggins ranked fifth in the MAC last season in field goal percentage (55.8 percent), while his rebounding and scoring averages ranked second and 22nd, respectively.
Richaun Holmes is the most-recent player from the Mid-American Conference to be drafted into the NBA. The 2015 MAC Defensive Player of the Year was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round of the 2015 NBA Draft. Holmes' 76ers are currently facing the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
STATEMENT FROM HEAD COACH MICHAEL HUGER
"I am thrilled to have Demajeo Wiggins back with our team for his senior season. Since he arrived on campus in 2015, Demajeo has grown as a person and basketball player. Having the opportunity to get evaluated by NBA teams was a rewarding experience for Demajeo as he continues to work toward his end goal of becoming a professional basketball player. The feedback he received will not only allow him to sharpen his game, but will also help strengthen our team. As coaches, we want to see our student-athletes achieve greatness in the classroom, on the court and in life. It is an honor to be able to support Demajeo and the rest of our team in achieving their athletic goals."
STATEMENT FROM FORWARD DEMAJEO WIGGINS
"I'm excited to be back – I love college! Everyone on our team is bought in and I think that'll lead to a great season for us. For us to achieve our goals, both as a team and individually – the work starts now."
