May 25, 2018 | Women's Track and Field
Tampa, Fla. – BGSU redshirt senior track and field student-athlete Elizabeth Iversen highlighted day two of the NCAA East Region Preliminary Round Friday by throwing a new personal best in the discus on the final throw of her collegiate career. Iversen's throw of 166-feet-11 (50.88m) allowed her to walk away with a 14th place finish in the event, just missing one of 12 spots to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
Aliyah Gustafson also competed in the event, placing 35th at 154-4 (47.04m). She was just one day removed from qualifying for the national championship in the shot put.

IVERSEN COMPLETES BIG WEEK
- Elizabeth Iversen competed in two events at regionals, setting a new personal best on her final throw of each.
- In the discus Friday, Iversen fouled her first attempt and threw just 127-6 (38.87m) on her second chance.
- But on her final attempt, Iversen found the range and tossed 166-11 (50.88m), a personal best exceeding the 165-7 (50.46) she threw at the Miami Duals in April.
- Iversen was just five centimeters shy of 12th place and a trip to the national championships, which paled in comparison to how close she came Thursday in shot put.
- On Thursday, Iversen threw a personal best and tied for the 12th position in shot put but lost out on a trip to nationals via the second tiebreak (second-best throw).
- In total, Iversen exceeded her seed by 45 spots over the two events. She was seeded No. 32 in the shot put and No. 40 in the discus. In each event, 48 competitors vie for 12 spots to nationals.
QUOTABLE
- "I'm very pleased with how Elizabeth competed. For her to come out in the biggest meet of the year and put together her two best performances, I give her a lot of credit. She was more than capable of doing that." – Throws Coach Derrick Vicars
UP NEXT
- The regional concludes Saturday and Aliyah Gustafson will be the only Falcon in action, taking part in hammer throw. Gustafson is the No. 35 seed for the event, which begins at 8:45 am.
