COACH TOMIC QUOTE
"It was an exciting match for our fans, it was an exciting match to coach. Both teams played at a high level; Marshall is such a scrappy team, I was just looking and saw they had 101 digs. I consider us a good defensive team and we had 96 digs in four sets. There were some great rallies, offensively this was our best performance; we had five hitters in double-digit kills."
HIGHLIGHTS
• Both sides fought to set the tone of the match in the first set. BGSU and Marshall tied the score a total of 14 times in the first set, and were tied 27-27 before the Falcons' scored a pair of points to clinch the set, 29-27.
• The Falcons' dropped the second set to the Herd (25-27), despite hitting at .283 (their highest percentage of the night) and holding the opponent to a .268 team hitting percentage.
• Marshall's pin hitter Ciara Debell accumulated 25 points throughout the match, eight in the second set, but it was not enough to beat the Falcons.
• The Falcons' were sharp defensively, capping the night with 14 total blocks. Katie Kidwell and Isabel Kovacic contributed four blocks each.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
• Middle blocker Katie Kidwell led the Falcons offensive efforts with 20 kills, ending the match with a blistering .385 hitting percentage. Middle hitter Madeline Brandewie followed closely with 14 kills for a fierce hitting percentage of .400.
• Setter Isabelle Marciniak was stellar for the Falcons' and put up 60 assists, a new season high, for her teammates.
• Libero Kallie Seimet needs only 4 more digs to reach the 250 mark this season after getting low for the ball 35 times against the Herd.
UP NEXT
• The Falcons will remain in the Stroh Center this weekend and will face IUPUI Jaguars tomorrow at 6:00 p.m., and the Nicholls State Colonels Saturday at noon. After the BGSU Invitational, the Falcons will travel to New York to kick-off the MAC conference against Buffalo.
