BGSU Goes Undefeated In Day One Of Detroit Invitational

The Bowling Green State University tennis team swept all competitions in day one of the Detroit Invitational.
INVITATIONAL FORMAT
• In this invitational, singles were played to two sets, with a 10-point tie-break for the third, while doubles matchups were held to only a single set without ad-scoring.
• By the end of the invitational, three rounds will be played for singles and doubles competitions. Day one marked the conclusion for rounds one and two of singles action, and round one of doubles play.

SINGLES HIGHLIGHTS
• In singles action, BGSU faced Case Western in the first round, and Detroit Mercy in the second round.
• The Falcons denied Case Western and Detroit Mercy from a single win, defeating all but three opponents in two sets.
• Senior Paula Comella was dominant in her first round bout versus Madeline Paolucci. Paolucci only managed to score one point against Comella, giving the BGSU senior the win with a final score of 6-0, 6-1.
• Polina Radeva had a comeback victory against Jessica Liu, forcing the match into a third set to clinch the win with a final point tally of 3-6, 6-4, 10-2.
• Vanesa Pardo was dominant in her first round match as well, winning it 6-2, 6-0, but experienced a setback in her second round match against Detroit Mercy's Ksenia Providokhina. Pardo dropped the second set against the Detroit sophomore, but resumed her domination in the third set, clinching it 10-2.
DOUBLES HIGHLIGHTS
• Ayumi Sasaki and Marta Bettinelli paired up to face Oakland's Darsha Artamanova and Sofia Borcuti. The junior and sophomore pair defeated the senior pair from Oakland 6-3.
• Comella teamed up with junior Marharita-Sophia Tavpash for a shutout victory (6-0) against the Oakland pair Samantha Gollaway and Ava Thielman.
• Radeva and freshman Laura Silveira faced tough opposition against Oakland pair Alexandra Whall and Amanda Nilsson, but got the job done as they took the set and the match with a score of 7-5.
