Tennis Set To Kickoff Spring Schedule With Two Weekend Matches

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team will kickoff their spring schedule with two matches this weekend, both in Louisville, KY. The Falcons will start at Bellarmine University on Saturday, Jan. 19 in a 2 p.m. first serve, and will continue with the University of Louisville on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 11 a.m.
Fall Momentum
The Falcons utilized the fall to create a foundation for this coming spring, opening the campaign at home with the BGSU Invitational, winning four of the five flight titles. The Orange and Brown followed up the home win with a trip to the Detroit Invitational, in which the Falcons won 27 of the 28 matches they competed in. Bowling Green also participated in the Cleveland State Invitational, where they won 21 of 35 matches, including having Paula Comella and Marharita-Sophia Tavpash crowned doubles champions. The Falcons concluded the fall schedule with the ITA Regionals, with Comella and Tavpash advancing as far as the quarterfinals.
Get To Know The Knights
BGSU's first match of the spring with feature the Knights of Bellarmine University. The Knights participated in three invitationals during the fall and two head-to-head contests. In the two head-to-head matches, they beat Martin Methodist College (Tenn.), 4-3, and also defeated Indiana University Southeast, 9-0. BGSU will be Bellarmine's first match of spring.
Looking At Louisville
Louisville competed in three invitationals during the fall, as well as the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals in Chattanooga, Tenn. For the Cardinals, the head-to-head match with Bowling Green will serve as their first match of spring. This will be BGSU's second match of the spring following the match with Bellarmine.
Last Season Success
During the 2017-18 season, the Falcons tallied a 14-9 overall record, their best finish since 2012-13 when the team finished 17-5. BGSU advanced to the MAC Semifinals before falling to Buffalo. Bowling Green will return six of the eight from last year's campaign, with the addition of one freshman. The squad will be led by three seniors (Paula Comella, Vanesa Pardo, and Polina Radeva), two juniors (Ayumi Sasaki and Marharita-Sophia Tavpash), one sophomore (Marta Bettinelli), and one freshman (Laura Silveira).
