Swimming And Diving Prepares For Two MAC Dual Meets

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving team has a full week ahead with two meets. On Thursday, Jan. 31., the Falcons will travel to Akron, facing the Zips with a scheduled start at 4 p.m. (NOTE: The 4 p.m. start is a change from the original schedule). Following, BGSU will stay within the Mid-American Conference, taking on Buffalo on Friday, Feb. 1 with a 4 p.m. scheduled start.
Aquatic Falcons
Bowling Green will enter the week holding a 7-3 record, 1-1 in MAC competition. The Orange and Brown jumped out to a strong 7-0 record to start the season, but have since cooled off, coming up short in the last three meets. Within the MAC, the Falcons opened with a win over Ball State, but came up short against Eastern Michigan. In their most recent meet, BGSU was led by Talisa Lemke who captured 18 points for the Falcons by winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives.Sarah Hennings also was able to come away with a win, finishing first in the 100-yard Butterfly.
Taking On Akron
The last time the Falcons and Zips met in a dual meet was in 2014-15, when BGSU bested Akron 167-132. Since then, the MAC rivals have competed in the Zippy Invitational, becoming two of the strongest teams in the event. Earlier this season, the Orange and Brown came away with a fourth place finish in the Zippy, while Akron took first in their own invitational. The Zips have a 4-1 overall record for the season, with a 2-0 performance in the MAC, topping Ball State and Buffalo. The dual meeting with Bowling Green will be Akron's first of two meets prior to the MAC Championships. They will take on Ohio on Feb. 1.
Preparing For Buffalo
For Buffalo, the Falcons last faced off with the northern foe in 2016-17, with Bowling Green coming up just short, losing 187-113. On the season, Buffalo sits at 1-4, with an 0-2 record within the MAC, having lost to Akron and Eastern Michigan. Their lone win came against Duquesne, where the Bulls were led by Olivia Sapio, who won the 100-yard IM, 400-yard IM, and the 400-yard medley relay. For the Bulls, this will be their final meet prior to the MAC Championships.
