Fralick Announces Title Change for Fellow Michigan Native
Bowling Green State University women's basketball coach Robyn Fralick has announced a title change for one of her staff members. Assistant coach Joel Whymer has been named the program's recruiting coordinator.
"Coach Whymer is very deserving of this title," said Fralick, who enters her second season at the BGSU helm. "He works tirelessly for our program and is very invested in all aspects of Bowling Green State University Women's Basketball.
"He is a great connector, relationship builder and evaluator and has been instrumental in our recruiting."
Whymer enters his second season on Fralick's staff after spending the previous three seasons at Wayne State University. In addition to serving on head coach Carrie Lohr's staff at WSU, Whymer also served as head coach of the junior varsity team. The varsity program went 19-8 in his final season on the staff, more than doubling the win total from the previous season.
Whymer spent one season (2014-15) as the head coach at St Clair County Community College (SC4). He led the Skippers to a 25-6 overall record and a share of the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Eastern Conference championship with a 13-3 league mark.
Prior to his appointment at SC4, Whymer spent two seasons as the head boys basketball coach at Marine City High School, where he was a special education teacher for five years.
Whymer is a 2010 graduate of Grand Valley State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in psychology with an emphasis on special education. He earned a master's degree in coaching education from Ohio University, and also earned a master's degree in sport administration from Wayne State in December of 2018.
The Falcons begin the 2019-20 season on Wednesday, Nov. 6, hosting Cleveland State in a 6:00 p.m. tipoff at the Stroh Center. The CSU contest is the first of three-straight home games to begin the season.
