Falcons Break 36-Hole School Record, Currently Sit In First Place In Cleveland

Vie, Falcons sit in first place after historic day in The Land.
Westlake, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team concluded the first round of the Tom Tontimonia Invitational today (Oct. 7) with a team score of -13 (555), good for first place for the tournament. The mark is the best 36-hole score in program history. Â
All seven Falcons participating in the tournament are within the top 23 players. The five not competing as individuals are within the top 18. Rodrigue Vie is in first place among the 78-player field, shooting -6 (136). Vie is just short of the program record for a 36-hole performance, which is 132. Vie is leading all players in Par 4 and 5 average with a 3.78 and 4.16 averages, respectively. Vie has nine birdies to lead the Falcons in the category.

Ward Kyle is the other Falcon in the top five, shooting -4 (138). Kyle is just behind Vie in Par 4 scoring average at 3.91, which is good for third among all players. Kyle is also tied with Vie with nine birdies and is near the top of the Par 5 scoring average with a score of 4.50, which is good for -3. This is just the fourth tournament Kyle has participated in with the Orange and Brown.Â
Tom North rebounded after an opening-round score of 75 to drop to a round two score of 68. North has a team leading 25 pars and is one of just two players in the tournament to have two eagles. North has a Par 5 scoring average of 4.50, which is good for -3. North is competing in just his third event for BG and has two top-ten finishes on the season. Â
Nick Hofland, after finishing as the top Falcon last week at T-4th in the Firestone Invitational, is currently T-18th. He shot a 144 (+2). Hofland is T-3rd in Par 5 scoring average at 4.34 among all individual players. He has seven birdies and 21 pars.
Ian Mackenzie-Olson rounds out the team lineup for the Falcons, and is tied with Hofland with a score of 144 (+2), good for T-18th. Mackenzie-Olson has shot an opening-round score of 69 that included seven birdies.Â
Dylan Fitchet and Curtis Hughes are both playing as individuals with Fitchet currently at T-11th and Hughes at T-23rd. The duo currently sits as the second and third best playing as individuals for the tournament. Fitchet had an opening-round score of 68 and finished with a score of 142. He is currently even for the tournament. Fitchet is just behind Tom North with 24 pars, good for second on the squad. Hughes shot a score of +3 (145), and has six birdies on the tournament.Â

Bowling Green was dominant in Par 4s and 5s as a team. The squad is currently leading both categories in scoring average, including an even 4.00 on Par 4s and a stellar -16 on Par 5s at 4.47. The Falcons lead the field with 36 birdies and three eagles.
The Falcons are coming off of their best performance in nearly two years after finishing T-2nd at the Firestone Invitational last week, and were just one stroke off from being co-champions. The Tom Tontimonia Invitational will conclude tomorrow with a shotgun start of 8:30 p.m. ET.Â
