Falcons Open Play At Tom Tontimonia Invitational Monday In Cleveland
October 06, 2019 | Men's Golf
Westlake Ohio – The BGSU men's golf team will continue their 2019 fall season with a trip to Westlake, Ohio and take part in the Tom Tontimonia Invitational. The event is being hosted by Cleveland State University.
This is the third event of the season for the Falcons, as last week they competed in the Firestone Invitational, hosted by the University of Akron, where they shot a collective score of -6 and the Falcons finished just one stroke back of the victors.
The T-2nd team finish is the best finish since the Mountaineer Invitational in 2017, and is the best finish under head coach John Powers.
There were three Falcons in Nick Hofland, Rodrigue Vie and Tom North who finished in the top six on the individual leaderboard. Hofland posted the best finish at T-4th. Hofland shot -4 (212) for the weekend, which was the best finish of his collegiate career.
Vie continued his strong start to the season, posting just outside the top five at T-6th. Vie finished the first event for the Falcons, the Raising Canes Invitational, with a score of 211 (+1).
Tom North also stayed hot in his second event for BG, tying with Vie at T-6th. North also finished T-4th in BG's first event and his efforts won him Jet's Athlete of the Week honors for that week.
The fall season will feature four events and the spring season will have seven events. Bowling Green's spring season includes trips to Texas, South Carolina, Arizona and Missouri among other stops.
The 2018-19 team posted three top-five finishes as a team, including finishing third at the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational for the best team finish of the season. This year the Falcons have already finished in the top five twice with a fourth and second-place finish.

Coach Powers Quote
"We obviously have some good feelings and momentum coming out of the Firestone event. Lakewood is a very good course which presents a little different kind of test compared to last week. The course is straight forward from tee to green, but the putting surfaces play very firm and fast. We will need to do some good work in the practice round to be ready for speeds we haven't seen yet this year. This is another event we expect to contend in and if we play our game, will have a great opportunity to be on top come Tuesday night."
