Falcons Win Tom Tontimonia Invitational; Vie Finishes In First Place

BG dominant in historic tournament win for program.
Final Results
Westlake, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University men's golf team finished first place today (Oct. 8) at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational. The Falcons posted a total score of 837 (-15) over the three-round tournament. The score is just five strokes behind the all-time program of 832, which was set in 2010. Rodrigue Vie finished first place on the individual leaderboard, shooting 205 (-8). Vie's score was just three strokes behind the program record at 202, which was set by Jose Narro in 2015.Â

The tournament was hosted by Cleveland State University and held at in Westlake, Ohio.

The Falcons finished yesterday with a team score of -13 (555), and held the lead heading into today's final round of play. BG's 555 marked the best 36-hole score in program history.

Vie's win is the first individual win for a member of the team since 2014. He posted rounds of 67-69-69 over the last two days.Â

This is the first time the Falcons have won a tournament since winning the Mountaineer Invitational, hosted by West Virginia University, on October 10, 2017. The win is the first tournament win under head coach John Powers.

Last week at the Firestone Invitational, there were three Falcons that finished inside the top six, and this week, there were three in the top five. Tom North and Ward Kyle were also inside the top five. North, in his third event as a member of BG, has now finished in the top ten in all tournaments this season.Â

Ward's fifth-place finish is the best finish of his young career with the Orange and Brown.Â

BG has improved in all three tournaments on the young campaign. The Falcons opened at the Raising Canes Invitational, finishing in fourth place. At the Firestone Invitational, BGSU was just one shot from being co-champions.

The squad was first in Par four and Par five scoring average for tournament at 4.06 and 4.53, respectively. On Par fives, BG was an outstanding -21 with the second-place team finishing at -10. The Falcons had 53 birdies and four eagles; both were the best in each category on the tournament.Â

Rodrigue Vie continues his outstanding season for BG. Vie has two other top-ten finishes on the year, finishing T-4 and T-6 in the first two tournaments of the year. Vie was second in Par four scoring at 3.91, and first in Par five scoring average at 4.11. Vie, along with teammate Tom North, were one of three players to post two eagles.Â

Tom North has had a strong debut season for the Falcons, posting three top-ten finishes so far. North improved over the three-day event, posting scores of 75-68-67. North was inside the top ten in par three, par four and par five scoring average.Â

Ward Kyle has also steadily improved throughout the fall season. Kyle finished T-27 at the Firestone Invitational. Kyle's score of 211 and finish of fifth are the both the best for his career. Kyle had 12 birdies on the tournament.Â
Dylan Fitchet, a true freshman in his second event for BG, finished T-13 while playing as an individual. He was the third-best individual for the tournament. Fitchet shot +2 (215) for the tournament with a 68 as his low-round score.

Ian Mackenzie-Olson, also playing in his third event as a Falcon, had his first T-20 finish as a member of the team, finishing with a score of +4 (217). He led the Falcons in birdies with 13.Â

Nick Hofland finished T-27 after recording a top-five finish at last week's Firestone Invitational. Hofland finished tied for third among all players in Par five scoring average at 4.45. Curtis Hughes, the other individual for BG, finished with a score of +11 (224). Hughes has played in all three tournaments on the season for BG.
