Kidwell Crushes With Kills In Win Over Northern Illinois

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball program claimed another five-set win on the season, trading sets with Northern Illinois on Saturday night (Nov. 16) in a 3-2 final at the Stroh Center. The win puts the Falcons at 11-5 in the MAC and 17-11 overall while the Huskies fall to 5-11 in the conference and 8-22 overall. Next up for the Falcons will be the MAC Tournament, being played at the Stroh Center.Â
Next Home Match: Bowling Green will host the MAC Championship at the Stroh Center beginning Nov. 21, with the Falcons first match being on Friday (Nov. 22). Tickets for the tournament can be purchased HERE.Â

Play-By-Play Notes
- The Falcons jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead before the action would stop, coming from a NIU timeout.Â
- Northern Illinois would pause the action once again with their second timeout of the set with Bowling Green still ahead with a 17-12 lead.
- Out of the timeout, Northern Illinois would go on a 4-0 run to bring the match to a 17-16 score before BGSU called a timeout of their own.Â
- From there, the Falcons would secure the set, seeing a final of 25-22 to take a 1-0 advantage.Â
- In the second set, the Huskies opened out in front with a 5-0 lead. Bowling Green then utilized the first timeout of the set.Â
- The Orange and Brown would see a 6-0 run to take an 11-8 lead followed by a timeout from NIU.Â
- The Huskies would battle back to take a 16-14 lead, forcing the Falcons to burn their second timeout of the set.Â
- The lead would roll into a 25-19 set with for Northern Illinois, evening the match at a set apiece.Â
- The third set began with Bowling Green out in front with a 4-0 run spilling into a 10-3 lead before NIU called a timeout.Â
- The Huskies would close the gap, drawing the score to 12-11 with BGSU calling a timeout to pause the action.Â
- The Orange and Brown battled back to reclaim the lead at 18-16 with NIU calling a timeout.Â
- Northern Illinois would go on to tie the match at 21-21 with another timeout being called, this time from the Falcon bench.Â
- The Falcons took control from there, going on to take the set 25-23 to reclaim the advantage at 2-1.Â
- In the fourth set, the first stoppage came with the score at 12-9 Huskies with the Falcons being the ones to call the timeout.Â
- The action turned to back-and-forth with a few ties before the next break, coming from a BGSU timeout with NIU leading 23-22.
- Northern Illinois would then take the set with a score of 25-23 to force a fifth.Â
- The Falcons leaped out to an early lead in the fifth set before NIU called a timeout with the score at 5-2.Â
- The lead stretched out to 9-4 before another timeout was called by the Huskies.Â
- The Falcons would roll that lead into a 15-10 set victory to clinch the win. Â
Strong Individual PerformancesÂ
- Katelyn Meyer and Katie Kidwell lit up the scoreboard on the attack with Meyer totaling 25 kills while Kidwell matched her career-high with 20 kills while also maintaining a .545 hitting percentage.
- Senior Isabelle Marciniak logged 40 assists in the match, moving her career total 3,726, putting her just 54 away from moving into second all-time for career assists. Also in the assist column, Hanna Laube registered 17 for the Falcons.Â
- Julia Walz was atop the dig column for the Falcons, logging 23. Additionally, 13 of the 14 Falcons who saw the court notched at least one dig. As for Walz, her season total rises to 573, placing her sixth in program history for digs in a single season.Â
- With seven kills, Jacqueline Askin moved her season total to 301, joining Katelyn Meyer in the 300+ kill club for the season with Meyer having 370. In doing so, the duo became the first to both log 300+ kills in a season since 2015 when Nicole Slimko and Jelena Sunjic combined for 726.Â
