BGSU To Battle Buffalo In Round Two Of MAC Tournament Friday Night

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball program enters the MAC Tournament riding a three-match win streak that closed the regular season and clinched the three-seed. After observing Thursday night, the Falcons face Buffalo for the third time this season. This will mark the first time since 2008 that BG and Buffalo have gone head-to-head in the tournament. In that match, the Falcons claimed a 3-1 victory in the first round. That season, Bowling Green advanced as far as the semifinals before falling to Western Michigan.

Buffalo (S)wings Into Round 2
Buffalo swept Akron in three sets Thursday night to advance to the next round to face the Falcons. On the season, the two teams met twice with the home team coming away with the win on both occasions. In the first meeting, Bowling Green hosted and swept Buffalo in the process over three sets. However, when the venue shifted to Buffalo for the second meeting, the Bulls took the win in four sets, setting up the Tournament's rubber match.Â
MACtion Underway In BG
The Mid-American Conference Volleyball Tournament began Thursday at the Stroh Center, seeing Ohio and Buffalo advance to the next round with the road ending for Kent State and Akron. The winner of tonight's match will move on to face Central Michigan on Saturday at 7 p.m. with the chance to advance to the MAC Championship, which will be played on Sunday. The other side of the bracket features Miami as the No. 1 seed.
Last Time Out
The Falcons took a five-set victory on Thursday night (Nov. 14) over the RedHawks, causing a series split for the season. Katie Kidwell led the Falcons in kills with 14 and was joined by Katelyn Meyer (13) and Jacqueline Askin (11) for double-digits in the category. Against Northern Illinois on Saturday (Nov. 16) the Falcons were again victorious in a five-set match. Meyer and Kidwell paced BGSU in kills having 25 and 20, respectively. Kidwell's 20 matched her career-high, all while maintaining a .545 hitting percentage. In assists, Isabelle Marciniak again led the team, hitting the 40-mark on the dot, bringing her closer to second on the all-time career assists list.
Home Sweet Home
The Falcons are serving as the host for the MAC Tournament this year, the first time they have done so since 2004. In the history of the program, BGSU holds a 6-3 record when playing at home in the MAC Tournament. As for appearances, this will be the 28th for the Orange and Brown, extending the current streak to four years, BGSU's longest run of consecutive appearances ran for 11 years, spanning from 2003-2013 and included the last tournament championship for the Falcons in 2012. In whole, Bowling Green has competed in seven tournament championship matches, including four of fives years from 1989-1993, which featured a sweep win over Miami in 1991.Â
Thrive In Five
This season, the Falcons have gone to a fifth set on seven occasions, being 6-1 in those matches. The lone loss came in just the third match of the season against La Salle, however, since then the Falcons have rattled off six straight when a fifth set is played. A win over Oakland was the first and was later followed by wins over Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Ball State, Miami and Northern Illinois. The wins over the RedHawks and Huskies came in back-to-back matches and closed out the regular season for Bowling Green.Â
For The First Time Since...
Last weekend, Jacqueline Askin surpassed the 300-kill mark for the season, concluding Saturday's match with 301 on the year. In doing so, Askin joined Katelyn Meyer in the 300-kill club for the season with Meyer having 370. With both Askin and Meyer over 300, they become the first duo for the Falcons since 2015 to both hit the mark. The last pair was Jelena Sunjic and Nicole Slimko who combined for 726. Â
