Stage Set For Semifinals: BGSU To Take On CMU Saturday Night At The Stroh

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball program advanced to the semifinals in the MAC Tournament following a sweep over Buffalo on Friday (Nov. 22). Next up for Bowling Green will be Central Michigan, who entered the tournament as the two seed in the conference after capturing a share of the MAC West Division, tying Ball State. BG and CMU last met in the tournament in the 2008 quarterfinals, a match that Bowling Green won by a score of 3-1.Â

Sliding Into The Semis
Central Michigan's first match of the tournament will come a week after their last match after receiving byes in the first two rounds. Entering the tournament, the Chippewas have dropped three of their last four, including having been swept by Eastern Michigan and Ohio with the other loss being to Ball State. The last time the Falcons and Chips met, CMU came away with a three-set win at the Stroh Center on October 18.Â
MACtion Underway In BG
The Mid-American Conference Volleyball Tournament continued on Friday, seeing another duo of matches played. Ball State and Bowling Green both advanced to the semifinals, taking place on Saturday. The first match will feature Miami and Ball at 4:30 p.m. followed by Central Michigan and Bowling Green at 7:00 p.m. The winners of the two matches will face off on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. to play for the MAC Tournament Championship.Â
Last Time Out
The Falcons claimed a three-set sweep over Buffalo on Friday (Nov. 22) to advance to the semifinals of the MAC Tournament to face Central Michigan. The win for the Falcons was their second over Buffalo on the year, having also swept them at the Stroh Center during the regular season. As for tournament play, it was the first win for Bowling Green in the MAC Tournament since 2016 when the Falcons topped Western Michigan by a score of 3-1. In the win on Friday, the Falcons were able to capture the first two sets before slamming the door in the third set by opening up with a 9-0 run, setting up a lead that would grow to 20-9 before taking the set 25-16 to secure the sweep.Â
For The First Time Since ...
In just three sets on Friday night (Nov. 22) against Buffalo, Katelyn Meyer logged 23 kills, just six off of the program record for kills in a three-set match. The mark moved Meyer's season total to 393, just seven away from 400. If Meyer can land seven kills against Central Michigan, she will become the first Falcon to have 400 kills since Jelena Sunjic registered 464 in 2016.
